We talk about nuances and sound, but hearing deteriorates with age. How much can we still hear? Still in denial? Try this test:

Even with a pair of quality headphones and the bass attenuated, I didn't hear any of those sounds, from 8 kHz upward.
I could hear clicking as the "sounds" (assuming there to have been any) were switched in and out.

I could hear 8000, 15,000, 17,000, and 18,000 but NOT 12,000 or 16,000. I got a message up saying that you tubes compression had affected 19,000 frequency so I don't know if I would have heard it or not.
Can anyone explain why I cannot hear a couple of frequecies but can still hear some that are much higher.
By the way I am 67 years of age so I suppose I should be pleased with the results anyway.

I got the first two, but at 19000, Noah, my Springer Spaniel bought my slippers to me. Does that count?

I could hear the clicking between the sounds, but nothing else! I'm 68, so in a few years I suppose I'll need some ear trumpets!

Can you hear 8000 Hz, Jim?
It would be highly unusual for people over 60 to hear beyond 12, 000 Hz, Maurice.

I'll check for accurate test tones on the internet.

I suspect that the soundtrack for the Youtube video is too compressed and restricted for those test tones to have been properly manifested.
http://mdf1.tripod.com/test-tones.htmlThe above-mentioned site provides reliable downloadable test tones from an oscillator. I can hear 10,000 Hz easily, but not 12,000 Hz (all I hear from that is the clicking).
Mike Beer: reassure yourself!
