Shadowsfix and Lakeside

Well, that’s Shadowsfix and Lakeside Shadows Celebration done! I went to both (couldn’t do the Friday night at Lakeside unfortunately).

Each event had a different feel for me. I have to say I enjoyed them both. I can appreciate the time (and money!) and the hard work put in by the organisers and musicians to keep the music we love there for us to enjoy and be a part of.

So what happens next year? Lakeside announced they will “do it all again” on September 13th 2014. Will Shadowsfix happen in 2014 also? Is there room for both? If so when should Shadowsfix be?

I didn't attend either, but my unbiased feelings are that it's surely good to have two events in different parts of the country to enable more people to get to at least one of them. Geographically, a Northern and Southern event would be ideal.

I hope to attend both events next year.

How many people were there at Lakeside last night, and how does the attendance compare with the number at Shadfix?

Anybody got a review of the bands at Lakeside?

I didn't do a head count at Lakeside but it was nowhere near full. Somehow it feels better when you're crammed in!

Well I disagree with Derek.
Nobody expected Bruce to be there.
Alan Jones, Brian Locking plus other very talented young and not so young musicians were there.
A great show, featuring Shads (and early Cliff) live music.
I would certainly support it next year.

Having played at Shadowsfix but not attending Lakeside it is impossible for me to compare.
I believe the comments from Shadowsfix were that the venue was the right size for the number attending and perhaps that is a guideline for any future ventures.
If, as I just read, that Lakeside was far from full it may not be the right venue now that it is not "Shadowmania" maybe something smaller would suit better.
Just a couple of thoughts, but I would certainly support the idea of more than one BIG event, as we already have very successful events in Scarborough and Newcastle in June and if placed appropriately on the calendar all could be well attended and successful.

What must be "paramount" here is keeping the music and sound of the Shadows alive. The very worst thing you can do with Shadows music is to not play it - so play it at every opportunity and at as many events as possible!

Well what a great weekend, I would like to thank all the staff at Lakeside for getting the event put on, and for helping me when I had a "problem, Thanks. I would also like to say I really liked the seating arrangements. Plus good to see all of our friends again, and meeting new ones. The bands were great and to have so many good bands on one bill, fantastic. In my view the Friday night was one of the best ever if not the best one, a great atmosphere, great playing as well.
Thanks to everyone.

Couldn't make either - hope both events keep going but about 6 months apart.
