Famous in his own right certainly, but also for loaning his first name (as a surname) to a well-known guitarist from the UK.

Yes, you're right there Jim regarding Hank taking Marvin's name. I remember Rainwater being top-of-the-bill on Sunday Night at The London Palladium and no-one had heard of him!

I always loved his Whole Lotta Woman- learnt all the lyrics when I was about 8 or 9 years old when that record came out- often played it over the years and still sing and play it sometimes with the band nowadays!

There's black & white clip on YouTube of Marvin doing the song in the UK when he toured and did the Palladium- there is an English trio backing him- standup bass, drums and a balding older chap (a session player?) playing lead on a big cutaway Hofner archtop with a pickup on it...worth a look!

RIP, Whole Lotta Woman with its yellow MGM label was one of those 45s I would play over and over again!

That was the first tune I learned to play on a plastic Ukulele I won at the Dreamland amusement park at Rhyl when I was a kid!

That's very sad. The very first record I bought, I think in 1958, was an EP by Marvin Rainwater, which we have on our jukebox.

Time marches on!

The Daily Telegraph obit refers to Johnny Duncan and his Blue Grass Boys in this context...

Pretty sure that is the Johnny Duncan's Blue Grass Boys.
Apparently Marvin's dots were "misplaced" on the way over from the USA.
Used that one a few times myself (but not at the London Palladium)

I think that the guitarist is Denny Wright who I remember playing for Lonnie Donegan and Johnny Duncan on The Six Five Special in 1957
