HI

Took delivery of the S500 last week and used it on the gig last night. The range of sounds is amazing and it will take a while to work out what sounds best for which numbers but I am very happy with it.

Thanks to Dave and Roger for setting me along this path!!

Regards

Stuart

I'm glad you like it Stu, I was amazed when I heard the tones on mine and it's only the Tribute model.
I want to catch you with the band, don't you do a regular mid-week gig somewhere near Castleford? Let me know. :)

My tobacco sunburst swamp ash S500 arrived Monday this week. I went into local stockist today who had some US ones. I really could not tell the difference between my Indonesian made one. Certainly would not have paid twice as much for one.
Only problem I have is the vibrato arm keeps coming loose and I have to keep tightening the grub screw. Everything else is fab

Bill there should be a tiny nylon bush between the grub screw and the trem bar and it should hold the tension once you have set it. If it's only thr grub screw onto the metal it won't function correctly, as I found out. :)

I also found that the knurled tip of the grub screw wears through the nylon in the end and damages the arm.
I swapped all the grub screws in my strats for a small brass screw, M4 thread.
The brass is softer than the steel and has no knurled point.

When I discovered my nylon bush wasn't present on the used G&L S-500 that I recently bought, I sent for some from the G&L store, but it's an expensive part at $5.25 + $25 shipping. I complained about the shipping costs for such a small item and customer services sent some FOC. When they arrived (you get a pack of six + six screws) I could see straight away that we can easily make these ourselves. The nylon bush is just a simple tiny little smidge of a ball that slots into the 4mm hole between the hex screw and the trem bar. I think that if you got some 4mm strimmer cord and clipped a 4mm piece off the end and shoved that in, it would do the same job. It's just something that the hex screw can compress against the trem bar without metal on metal. When it wears out you can clip off anther piece from the strimmer cord.

Also, the hex screws are available here the UK from any good engineering suppliers, though the ones I got were black and not chrome and cost pennies. They are 4mm. :)
