I remember playing 'Jean Genie' in a three-piece band in a rock showcase gig way back in 1988. I have a feeling it's on youtube somewhere.

The only Shads connection I can think of - tenuous as it may be - is that Alan Hawkshaw played on an icecream jingle sung on by Bowie in the late 60s, called LUV.

RIP a true legend and icon.

And of course Hank recorded an instrumental version of "Space Oddity" in 1993 for his "Heartbeat" album, with Tahlia on backing vocals and Cliff doing the countdown.
Shocking news indeed, another one of the legends gone...

Although not much taken with his music, I do wish his soul well.

On his last but one album, 'The Next Day' from just a couple of years ago - there's a track called on 'How Does the Grass Grow', which incorporates the tune of 'Apache' and which gives a credit (and no doubt extensive royalties) to Jerry Lordan...

Isn't there a Shadows version of 'Life on Mars' lurking in EMI's archives somewhere?

I think The Shadows started recording the track, but never completed it. I think it was during the sessions for the "Specs Appeal" album, in 1974.
