Cliff Richard / Shadows International Fan Meeting
De Druiventros Hotel, Berkel-Enschot, Tilburg, Netherlands
12:30 CET Saturday 31st March 2012

It was with great sadness that at about 13:00 local time, master of ceremonies "Ferry Nice" announced to the crowd that Joop Moen, organiser of the festival had passed away. Rumours had been circulating for a half-hour or so before that.

Joop had not attended on the Friday because of his illness, but we (Kevin Wooten, Alan Taylor and I) were hoping to see him at some time over the weekend, though that was not to be.

We are told that the show will go on, though clearly, an immense cloud has been placed over the proceedings.

Further (appropriate) detail will be provided as it becomes available. This terrible news comes only some eighteen months or so after the sudden death of Joop's wife Jolanda.

RIP Joop and Jolanda.

So sorry to read this...

Joop saw something in "Legend", took us to Tilburg, then signed us for our first album, produced y Warren Bennett, and mastered in Holland. He came to see us launch it at Pipeline, and engineered its considerable success on the Continent. Through that we went to Germany and made many, many friends... and then to ShadowMania.

We owe him... the community of Shadows' music fans is very much the poorer now...

This is unbelievable news.

The Tilburg weekends are all down to his organising and as he told us last year they are his "hobby" and he liked to put on these events regardless of cost.

We have been to Tilburg many times and enjoyed the whole weekend. It gave us a chance to see many European bands play there and listen to their style of music.

It's tragic this has happened during this weekend's event in Tilburg and so soon after loosing his wife of Jolanda. Our condolences go to Joop's family and friends.

Thank you for the music Joop. RIP

Barry and Julia
