We all have to accept that we start on a 'very high plateau' (?!) of being usually very long time and loyal fans who in all probability purchase all of Hank's material and do enjoy it a lot. Such an expert group is bound to look at fine critical detail others would simply shake their head at in disbelief/wonderment. I like many others would like a bit more 'bravado' from the Master (like Steve Hackett who has probably produced his best four albums in his 60's - all original material too). But I am very loyal to Mr Marvin and in battles with friends who are a bit 'anti' him and the Shads I would love to show and say 'just look at his latest' which of course I can't really as he demonstrates what they hate the most (i.e. covers). But looking at his overall career (MWF, Gypsy Jazz, Cliff, solo career, Shads etc) there's really more than enough to justify his well deserved guitar god status.

Hackett apart, all of the other artists I've followed for decades suffer pretty similar criticism/comment from their fans all of whom pine for the early glory days - which were of their time and cannot come back even if attempted. We should really bask in their long careers. How many of us expected in 1960 to still be buying new Hank recordings in 2017?!! None I should think.

It would be great if they became site members, they could sure settle a few arguments! :D

Didn't Jet used to post on here when he was alive? I think it was this site?

I've probably said this before, but if you seek any further proof that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, just listen to a solo album by a member of practically any band you can name.

the fact is the music industry is very 'corporate' these days - far more so than ever before - and an artists 'standing' as a famous influential legendary figure probably counts for little in the eyes of corporate music business execs

it's all about profits and decent returns - hence all the covers and Hank here doing say 'Doctor Who' like with The Shads doing 'Eastenders' in the 80's - it is deemed by the marketing bods that such topical covers are MORE likely to sell today than letting ol' Hank just do an album of material HE wants to do etc

I think this really reflects the modern music industry today

I'll stick with my older Shads and Hank albums ! ;)

Dear all,

we are wondering if the selection of tunes for Hank's upcoming new album was done by him or by the record company. I don't know if he would be really keen
to record completely new tunes instead of mostly covers. Please remember that Hank produced his last solo albums himself, it looks as if he was satisfied with
those productions, maybe more than his fans?
Who should write 10, 12 or maybe 14 really good instrumentals for a new Hank or even Shad's album?
Which was the last Shadows album with truly fascinating new instrumentals-it was Rockin' with curly leads, 44 years ago, when John Farrar was still with the group.
I'm afraid that we can wait for a new brillant instrumental album until eternity, it will never happen again.
The days for good instrumentals are over. Let's face it, the magic days are gone, the first 3 Shadows albums (The Shadows, Out Of The Shadows and Dance With The
Shadows) will remain classic or magic instrumental albums (even though they already featured covers and vocals, too). Neither one of all the following albums
could capture this magic again.

Best regards

Peter K

Jet Harris did indeed post a few messages on here. I recall one occasion where he responded to a post of mine (which was totally un-Shadows related!). Warren Bennett used to as well.

I remember Warren used to post, he went by the name Waffle.
Haven't seen anything from him in a long time though.

I imagine they've got better things to do than get sucked into the same arguments over and over again... ;)

Hi,

I agree with Peter K.
Another member of this site wrote that we have to accept that the past is the past, that is true also.
I think that some members fear that Brain, Bruce or Hank might visit this site and could be upset? I can't believe that.
If one could call some reactions criticism, perhaps, but it is all in a fair way and with respect.

Regards,
Emiel
