I certainly DON'T agree the 'magic' faded after ONLY three albums - that's utter nonsense !!

like saying The Beatles lost it after 'A Hard Days Night' !

'Sound of...', 'Shadow Music', 'Jigsaw', 'From Hank Bruce Brian and John', The Shads tracks on 'Established 1958' (the Cliff/Shads ones were fine too), Hank's classic 1969 solo album, arguably 'Shades of Rock' (I rate it), plus the classic 'Curly Leads', 'Specs Appeal' , 'Tasty' and 'Live in Paris' were ALL great and classic Shads albums - I've even grown to quite like 'String of Hits' too !

add to that the two M W & F vocal albums also the underrated Marvin & Farrar album of 1973 plus 'Twenty Golden Greats' and there are MANY more 'magic' Shadows albums after 'Dance With...'

while 'Greatest Hits' and 'More Hits' are stand out compilations

and I'd even include the Regal Starline and four MFP compilation albums too - 'Mustang' is especially noteworthy for a compilation album ! 8-) 8-)

Totally agree with Geoffrey's comment.

The Regal-Starline and one of the MfP albums contained unique mock-stereo versions of certain recordings, not released elsewhere (except, in some cases, by Magic Records, but dubbed from the vinyl anyway).

"Somethin' Else!":

1. Lonesome Fella (Ø)
2. Saturday Dance (Ø)

"Walkin' With The Shadows" (alternatively titled just "The Shadows" with the blue or bench cover):

6. Sweet Dreams (Ø)

1. Ranka-Chank (Ø)
2. What A Lovely Tune Ø)
6. I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Arthur (Ø)

The other MfP LPs were all-stereo, but the 1986 cassette-only MfP compilation "An Hour Of The Shadows" contained the mock-stereo versions of Ranka-Chank, What A Lovely Tune and I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Arthur as well as the mock-stereo Foot Tapper from "20 Golden Greats".

"Las Tres Carabelas (Three Galleons)" was always listed as being in stereo on this compilation album, but having listened to it multiple times, I think the sound mix is more close to mock stereo, as there isn't any instrument separation.

I think The Shadows' 1980's output also has quite a few 'magical' moments, regarding recordings, especially tracks from the albums from "Change Of Address" to "Guardian Angel". The later albums from 1986's "Moonlight Shadows" to 1990's "Reflection" also feature some great renditions of familiar tracks.

It would be great if they became site members, they could sure settle a few arguments! :D

Didn't Jet used to post on here when he was alive? I think it was this site?

Jet Harris did indeed post a few messages on here. I recall one occasion where he responded to a post of mine (which was totally un-Shadows related!). Warren Bennett used to as well.

I remember Jet posting on here once asking about the correct tyre pressures for his van.

I wouldn't say the magic faded after 'Dance with' but their sound softened somewhat, then they got into tuxedos and started playing Talk of the Town and such like.
There was plenty of magic after that, right up till Reflection.

Who remembers the night (circa 1965, if I recall correctly) when The Shadows appeared on "Sunday Night At The London Palladium" as top of the bill, and sang (yes, sang) just one song - Da Doo Ron Ron - dressed in tuxedos, looking like the Rat Pack, standing in a line (no instruments), clicking their fingers?

It was like watching a Dallas Boys tribute act.

Blimey! I'd not heard or read before about that!

No wonder their popularity waned around that time...personally, I lost interest after the Rhythm & Greens and Flingel Bunt era..didn't really get back into listening and learning/playing - mostly their earlier 1960-64 material -until about 10 years ago..

Hank and Bruce have both been members at times - mainly in the MSN era... Bruce took most interest, while Hank appears to have become irritated by it and withdrew. Tahlia also posted here, along with Warren
