Yes I have seen some of your excellent videos of Shadowmania............. & yes I do attend the Solent club as well as the South Coast one, & last night I was at the Hersham one too, which was a very enjoyable evening... would be nice to see you at some or all of these venues.......
Like you, I prefer the Shads music to Cliff's ...... (except when he is appearing with them..)& I have been a fan since I heard Dance On & Flingel Bunt...... (I was a bit too young to appreciate Apache when it first came out)...... I was a Beatles 'babe', as soon as I heard She Loves You...... thats the record that had an 'Apache' effect on me...... but have never lost my liking for most of the Shads music, no matter how many times I hear the tunes.

Hi Lesley
It was Apache that made me want to learn the guitar (i'm still learning) and I was equally "blown away" when I first heard the Beatles and was and still am a huge fan but it didn't diminish my love of the Shads music. It's ok to be a fan of both!

Thanks Mike, I'm sure most of us on here have a wide range of musical taste..... covering everything from R&B to Classical & back again...... I enjoyed the Beatles early chart hits, but when they did the Rubber Soul & Sgt Pepper albums their style had changed & I couldnt quite get into it.......but they certainly never went short of fans no matter what they recorded ... :D
The current Cliff & Shads tour has certainly proved (if proof were needed!) that they are also definitely not short of fans!!! :P
Cheers

Hello, my name is Anna. I’m not a “member” of the site, but our lead guitar Andy is, so from time to time I read posts, including on the old site. I have asked Andy to post this for me. I hope this is all right.

I play bass guitar in our 14-person musical company, which is made up of professional musicians and amateurs like Andy (a Shadows buff) and myself. I missed the Shadows era just slightly and began to listen and study their early pieces only fairly recently. I have found the Shadows and their “sound” quite intriguing.

I use the Fiesta Red Precision Bass shown in the portrait photo for the 8 Shadows pieces in our show’s 32-piece repertoire. I shift to a Hofner bass for the balance of the show. The Hofner is quite light, as it’s semi-hollow, and has a short-scale neck (it’s shorter than the standard bass), so perfect for me (I am 5’2” and have small hands!). I recommend it highly to women bass players! That’s me playing the Hofner at the last show.

I work full-time (the band is a hobby) and have two wonderful kids – a 13-year-old boy and a 16-going-on-28 year old girl. I live quite far from all of you, but do hope to visit someday.

Hello again!

I'm finally enrolled and responding under my own name. I think this thread is a great idea and I do hope to hear from the other women on the site. Are there other women bassists out there?

Regards and happy new year!

Hello Anna, a very warm welcome to you & thank you for joining up under your own name. The pic of you with your Hofner violin bass shows that you really enjoy playing that model.... in fact it would be a perfect size for me should I wish to learn in the future, as I too have small hands, being only 5ft tall (or rather, short!) lol........
On this site it doesnt matter how many miles we all live from each other.... all part of the wonderful world of the internet, so please continue to post your messages & let us know how your band is doing. :)
Happy New Year to you & your family

Hello again!

Thank you Amanda, Lesley, and Kitty for your warm welcome!

Amanda, you probably came across something on The Madeleine Cookie Cookie, with whom I perform. You're a lead guitarist, right? And you also seem quite knowledgeable in technical things, especially Meazzis.

I look forward to chatting again with all of you especially on matters relevant to female musicians and Shadows fans.

Regards!

Hi Anna,

I wish! I wish I was any kind of Guitarist, I have a go, but need more practice!

I decided to put the Meazzi site on to replace a previous site that was run by the late Ken Ward,
It's dedicated to Ken and Ade (Lesley's Late Husband) and also Roberto Pistolesi.

Regards

Amanda

ok here goes ....

My name is Angélique von Söhsten, Im 32 years of age and have been a Cliff fan since the age of 11. my love for The Shadows started a little later.
In 1990 I attended my first Cliff concert (Stronger Tour in Rotterdam, in dad's company as I wasn't allowed at that age to go alone! Dad wasn't too pleased about my 'love'for Cliff's music as he was more into Dire Straits  Have to say he really enjoyed the show and wasn't afraid to admit so
I attended all Cliff's concert Tours after that and started going to shows abroad as well(UK, Belgium, Denmark, Germany). My first UK concert was in 1994.
My First Hank Marvin concert was in 1995, I had a little taster at the Diamond Award Festival in Antwerp and attended the show in Birmingham the week after that... and attended his Tours in 1998,2000 and 2002 as often as I could, as I am one of those girls who strongly feels that 1 show per tour sure isn't enough it should be atleast 3   sometimes even up to ... 12    (Shads Final Tour).
I became a member of Shadowmusic in I think it was early April of 2000 and have been a member ever since and was one of the assistant managers for the last 5 years or so.
It was thanks to this site that I got an interest in Shadowmania and... you guessed it attended my first Shadowmania in 2001.... and haven't missed one ever since.
In 1990 I also attended my First Cliff fanclub Event as well as the Int. Cliff & Shadows Meeting in Tilburg/Eindhoven.
In 1998 I decided to start a new Cliff and Shadows Fanclub "Move It"after the former Dutch club closed down and have been running it ever since.
My first Shadows concert was in Ipswich in 2004 and was lucky enough to being able to attend 12 of their shows between 2004 and 2005, well let's say I had a lot of catching up to do  it was their last Tour and my first  :(

Over the years and mainly thanks to this site I have met and made a lot of new friends at stagedoors and events like Shadowmania and "Tilburg".

So, I guess that's my story... yet another lady that hasn't learned to play the guitar yet (have the guitar but haven't got the 'drive'to learn it yet) but I sure enjoy listening to our musical hero's as a group as well as solo acts!

Angélique
