Hi Martin,

Regarding the exclamation mark see the attached scan.

Best wishes,

Ulrich

Thanks Ulrich.

For our North American readers, you call it an exclamation point...

Martin.

There is a website on this subject that may be of interest:

http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2009/07/t ... words.html

Even has some MP3 downloads, Sony James' 'Apache' included (and Telstar even!). Did you know that Sammy Davis Jnr did a vocal of the Hawaii Five Oh Theme? ;)

There Are some other intersting Names Referenced To The Avons
who wrote and recorded the original version of dance on.

THE AVONS
Sisters-in-law Valerie (1936, Willesden, London, England) and Elaine Murtagh (b. 1940, County Cork, Eire) originally performed as the Avon Sisters. After being discovered singing at the 1958 BBC Radio Exhibition, they signed to UK Columbia Records where they recorded with producer Norrie Paramor. Their debut was ‘Which Witch Doctor’ with the Mudlarks and their debut solo release was a cover version of ‘Jerri O’ - both songs failed to chart. They added Ray Adams (b. 1938, Jersey, Channel Islands), whom they spotted singing with Nat Gonella’s Band, and then changed their name to the Avons. Their first single under the new name, a cover version of Paul Evans’ ‘Seven Little Girls Sitting In The Back Seat’ in 1959, gave them their only UK Top 20 chart entry. The light-pop trio had three minor hits and last charted with a cover version of ‘Rubber Ball’ in 1961. In 1962 a song they had written, ‘Dance On’, became a UK number 1 instrumental hit for The Shadows and it returned to the Top 20 the following year with a powerful vocal version by Kathy Kirby. They recorded for Decca Records in 1963 and Fontana Records in 1964 but had no other hits. Valerie continued to have success as a writer and is still a well-known behind-the-scenes figure in the UK music business. Their only album is now much sought after, fetching high prices in the collector’s market
In 1962 a song they had jointly written, "Dance On!" it became a UK number 1 instrumental hit for The Shadows. It returned to the Top 20 the following year, with a Vocal version by Kathy Kirby. They also wrote "In Summer", a number 5 UK hit for Billy Fury in 1963.
Valerie Murtagh became a successful songwriter, and remained involved with the British music industry. With her songwriting partner, Harold Spiro, she wrote (under the name Valerie Avon) the UK entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 1974, "Long live love , as performed by Olivia Newton-John, along with many other hit songs.

There was also a version of Dance On sung in French by Petula Clark (she made a big career in France). The title was "Je me sens bien auprès de toi" (I fell fine next to you) :

I have just read this on MSN
'Singing star and pin-up Kathy Kirby, who achieved a run of hits in the 1960s, has died at the age of 72.

Her family said she died last night after a short illness.'
Best Regards
