Aladdin - play of the week

Postby rogera » 20 Nov 2020, 11:21

I was lucky enough to have gone to the London Palladium to see the pantomime Aladdin and I'm sure that many of the members here did also.
When looking at the IMDB site this morning I was surprised to see that Aladdin was shown on TV as "ITV Play of the Week" on Christmas day 1967.

I certainly remember the pantomime but not the TV program. Details here :-

I have an audio recording of the Christmas Day 1967 broadcast. The Shadows sing "Me Oh My" accompanied by probably Norrie Paramor's orchestra and also the studio recording "Snap, Crackle And How's Your Dad" of their then latest album "From Hank, Bruce, Brian And John" is included.

I also had an audio recording of that programme. At one point there was a fanfare and someone announced "Here comes Princess Jasmine" (or similar) followed by Brian saying "I didn't know she played the trumpet!" Well, I thought it was funny. I guess you had to be there.
