You will always come across people better than yourself and not as good as yourself.. so the middle ground ain't that bad really :D I also believe that the more you practice the better you are for it... and the more tunes you learn as well helps and mixing with others rubs off ... me I just get on with it

Guess I better shut up now.

Alan I think you have taken my post the wrong way, so your apology is not necessary, and don't shut up, keep posting your thoughts, I like to know how members feel about their own performance.

It's been said already but I think it's better if you don't think your the best and can't get any better...............I can't play after drinking, but the drink make me sound better, or so I think !!!!

Funny really, thinking about it, although I started playing (with a teacher) when I was 9, my biggest improvement came when as a 16 year old I was playing in a band with 19 and 20 year olds. whether I was learning more from them or whether it made me work harder I dunno!

Last week at a Shadow Club a fellow was talking about the standard of playing, and said it was very high and he thought it was good because it will make him improve, but he felt sorry for the novice when they visit !!.................

I think whatever stage you're at it’s good to post sound files or videos, for your own satisfaction and also to see as time goes by if you progress. I have posted lots of videos in the past which I cringe at now and wish I could do them again.
It’s also a good reminder of how you used to play them.

If a player posts a sound file and you don’t know anything about the person posting it then you have to be careful in what you reply – If you criticise and say exactly what you feel and find out later that the player is a beginner then you would feel awful for leaving a negative comment.

If you know the person and what they can play you can be perfectly honest as say exactly what you feel without offending, which I have done on several occasions.

If I hear a song I don’t like – I usually don’t reply, or if I do I say I don’t like the song but you played it well (if they did )

What I don’t like is the few who post sound files expecting to be praised and never bother to reply to anyone else’s.

I personally welcome constructive critism and some people do which is a help but not everybody. As OldDerek says – tell the truth.

i listen to recordings on this site and if i enjoy them i say so. personaly i am not bothered if it was by the book, if it stikes a chord with me i will say so if not i move on. something dosent have to be played perfectly for me to enjoy, and on some vidios it is clear to all that whoever is playing is enjoying it and i find that i then in turn enjoy it. peter

Hi Phil

I can relate to most everything you say in your reply, especially listening to recordings we did
years ago,I think that's a good reference to see how much we improve,or not.

I haven't posted much on this site,mainly because I didn't get many,if any comments.

If I was worried about the comments,I wouldn't post in the first place,I don't mind constructive
criticism from someone who knows what they are talking about, mind you as I said,I
don't post anyway, maybe I should put my money where my mouth is and put something up for criticism.

My biggest problem is mixing, getting the balance right.

Another thing people don't do on this site is collaborations,or if they do,they keep it quiet.
If Hank can record something 12,000 miles away and send it for mixing,I am sure we could
do something along theose lines.Just a thought.

Derek,thanks for the encouragement,glad I didn't upset anyone.

I feel it only fair to tell you that I dispensed with Raymond's services following his tissue of lies to a national newspaper about me going thin on top.
