MOVE IT Reunited New track

Postby suboA21 » 23 Sep 2009, 08:21

Hi All

The blurb on the CD cover (which I bought from Tesco's Thanet yesterday for £8.70) says there are "three brand new tracks" - C'mon Everybody, Sea Cruise and Singin' the Blues. But aren't there actually FOUR new Cliff & the Shadows studio tracks?

I don't think they have ever recorded a studio version of MOVE IT before!
The Original being recorded by Drifters in 1958 before Hank, Bruce, Tony and Jet became members

Not an expert on the Cliff Stuff but there may have been various live versions of Move it recorded over the years and I am sure they must have done live versions of the the other three over the years but Brian Bennett, Brian May and Cliff surely recorded a studio version of Move it before Cliff & the Shads.

Happy to be proved wrong

On Cliff's first album there is a version of Move It backed by the Drifters with Hank, Bruce, Jet and Tony. It was recorded in the Abbey Road studio (although in live conditions with an invited audience).

good point! interestingly on both shows on the tour so far they sing it without the additional verse, which was featured on the hank plays cliff album, and by cliff when he has played it live since...not sure if this is deliberate yet (though I suspect it is) - we shall see!

That's surprising. You'd think that Cliff's gone through great pains to sing the additional verse since the Hank Plays Cliff album back in 1995 and of course the new album and then leaves it out on the new tour. Let's see what he does at the O2. Incidentally Ian Samwell wrote the additional verse for the 1995 album.

And the original studio recording didn't feature any of the musicians that we eventually know as the Shadows....

Good.

I've never been completely convinced by the new verse. The lyric sounds contrived in order to achieve a rhyme.
