Tracks You Wish They Had Recorded.

Postby captainhaddock » 23 Feb 2010, 21:45

I guess that this thread may have been tried before and if it has, I appologise. Following on from another thread, are there any Tracks that you wish they had recorded.? I'll start it off with "House Of The Rising Sun", "Wicked Game",The "Randall and Hopkirk" theme and an obscure title , the 1974 Eurovision runner-up "Go" originally recorded by Gigliola Cinquetti.

'Je T'aime'.... :?

Warren did 'Dances with Wolves' on one of the Vibratos albums - I read somewhere that he had done a demo for Hank - but that Hank didn't do it for some reason. I can't understand why - I think it would have made a great Hank / Shads instro. Maybe they thought that the tune wouldn't be instantly recognisable to the general public?

The classic Oz surf instrumental 'Bombora' by The Atlantics -it knocked 'The Boys' off the charts in Australia back in the early '60's - (and after all, Hank is an Australian now!), it would be interesting to hear a Shads rendition of this .............. ;)

.....and still popular as an Oz 'standard' though The Atlantics have 'matured' somewhat........ ;)

"Thunderbolt" is the one for me.

I don't think this song ever got the reconition it deserved.

Does any one know if the Shads have ever played this track live at all?

I remember a Cliff (sorry!) concert in the 70s, when it must have just been released as a single, Cliff's backing band with BB on drums use to play it.

I wish they had recorded more originals in the 1980's. I never understood why the "Guardian Angel" album had such little promotion. I think that if it had the amount of promotion of the other albums in the decade, it would have done better and The Shadows would have been allowed to record more originals. I have read stories that The Shadows didn't promote it enough themselves on tour, but, to be fair, they did promote it while they were on tour in Australia and New Zealand in early 1985. The two tracks they played were "How Do I Love Thee" and "Hammerhead".
