Postby Gary Allen » 01 Mar 2010, 11:41

Anyone know first hand if these amps are worth the money..I ve e mailed them a few times and they cant be bothered to respond....Can any members vouch that a late 60s or early 70s ac30 would be just as good ?................gary

I would buy a genuine, modern, Vox Heritage and save heaps of cash...

Alternatively, I'm just in the process of preparing to sell my 1964 AC30 top boost with Vintage EF86 unit fitted...

pm me if interested...

Justin's Musical Industries...

Justin Harrison co-owns Music Ground which owns Hiwatt and JMI brands and manufactures the high end models in Doncaster, UK.

Thank you David
I enjoyed the pun.
Not really far from a sham.
It could as well be standing for : Jules Maigret Incorporated.

David is absolutely correct, Justins Musical Instruments,- nothing to do with Jennings Musical Instruments, except for the AC30 of course. As regards the original question,I am lucky enough to have several AC30s,both JMI copper faced plus late 60s and early 70s top boost. In my opinion the 70s post Stolec models are under-rated,-they are a good amp, I certainly do not regard the earlier ones as better. I have never had an EF86 conversation so can't comment on that. A very important issue is the speakers,- I have "Blues" fitted to all my amps and this really makes a difference.

That's right Gary, they are fitted with Tayden speakers because JMI are slagging the Celestion Blues off, saying that they are now made in China and are sub-standard. I have a friend who has a JMI AC30 and I've been invited to try it out, I'll mention it here when I've had a play through it. I reckon the Tayden speakers will be good, probably copies of the original Blues.

I have one post JMI - the speaker code is May 69 and in the inside there is a inspection sticker
dated 23-03-70.
The amp is NOT an italian VOX, according the JMI book of Jim E. - AC 30`s were never manufactured
in Italy - and the sound of the amp is amazing - I had the chance to compare it with a 61`s treble
model.
I prefere the top boost of my amp - there is more punch and clearness in comparison to the treble
model.
I don`t use the amp on stage, I play Marshalls (JVM 410) because of the easier handling ( I need a
lot of different sounds and effects ) !
It`s a prejudice to say that those "italian" amps are not good. You should try one !
