In the greater scheme of things you're right Bill, but in our world of 'The Shadows' I think it would be very useful. Very often bands sharing the same name can be in quite different genres of music, and blissfully unaware of each other, but I've always felt that this site is one of, if not the (for me anyway) central hub of Shads news & views, (and info. would be passed on to other sites through general chat) so at least it would make life easier for those wanting to start a new Shads style band to try not to duplicate a name, not only for the sake of the exsisting band, but themselves.

Hi,

I've thought of a good one, but I can't tell you all in case you nick it!

I don't think you'd guess it anyway!

Regards

If this thread is going to become a competition to suggest silly/outrageous group names please may I get in early with that old favourite, 'The Four Skins'?

Chas,

I agree with what you say there, but only to a point. Now, I remember back in the late 1950's there was this band in UK calling itself 'The Drifters'............... they changed their name so as not to clash with the US band by the same name. Somehow they missed the existing group backing Bobby Vee at the time, 'The Shadows'. Anyone heard of them? Well, here's a short para of Bobby Vee's history that will tell you where they stood in the food chain of Rock and Roll back then, and anyone 'in the game' surely must have known of them:

One of the longest lasting of the teen idols of the early Sixties, Bobby Vee got his lucky break when he and and his band the Shadows filled in for the late Buddy Holly at a 1959 Mason City, Iowa, concert days after Holly was killed in a plane crash.
