But it's a plasma model, and my wife prefers 52" Samsung LCD ones, but they are much more expensive !

And the blu ray players are down to under 100 Euro now.

That's righ, the price for Blu Ray players is not an issue anymore.

The onset of innovation will never settle down...
I have seen many kinds of real 3D screenings at the Futuroscope theme park in France (Imax and others), and it's effective only for close shooting (stereoscopic effect works only up to 20 around feet, otherwise you have to rely on perspective as did the former Cinerama process).
But no doubt that 3D will have a lot of success for X rated films...

I bought my first 3D DVD a few months back (Not X Rated, honestly  ). To watch it, I had to wear the cardboard specs that came with it. Unfortunately , being a wearer of specs for TV viewing, I found myself juggling two pairs of specs through the entire film and thus could not devote my full concentration to the film. It seems that unless prescription 3D Specs are made available, for the optically challenged the 3D experience is a non starter.

A word of warning. The retail versions of 3D TV sets use " shutter " electronic controlled glasses, and there is a slim posssibility of a health hazard for some. Remember the warnings about strobing and flash photography on TV affecting people susceptible to schitzso behavior ? Well same can happen here, and in small small print you may see eg Sony making a disclaimer in the TV warranty.

In reality no research has been done on the effect on the eyes and brain of stuttered field viewing alternating each eyes view to suit the 3D , this is totally an unnatural experience for the brain and prolonged or continued use could prove harmful. Of course those wanting to be guinea pigs may find out too late that some serious or permanent damage has occurred to them which could prove irreversible. The implication being that unaffected people could become sensitized and damaged long term by this method, and with potentially eye or brain damage.

I mentioned this to the guys at the Sony Centre, and they ere well aware of the potential, so be warned Sony are aware of the implication and are continuing with the technology regardless.

The only safe 3D viewing is Polaroid glasses based, or the cardboard type, and they don't work on people with a lazy eye condition.

Will be interesting to see research figures on 3D induced eye and brain injuries in 10 years time when more is known based on injuries reported and undergoing treatment.

Even Fluorescent lights and BRIGHT LCD' TV's can cause serious health issue and you can become sensitized where you will never ever be able to watch TV again, A FACT !!. Check it out on Google.

Best to turn the contrast and brightness down, or the effect will be like looking at a search lamp for hundreds of hours of your life with inevitable results on your retina.

It is the equivalent to listening to guitar amps and bands at high volume. So High brightness and staring at 42" of LCD maxed out lights is likely to cause damage long term

Such "shutter" electronic controlled glasses have been in use for years at Omnimax 3D theater in the Futuroscope theme park, and I have not heard of such problems.
I didn't notice any problem myself, but the movies weren't very long (less than 1 hour).

Hi Didier, please do not dismiss the concerns of scientists that may have a point. There is some substance to the concerns for home viewers who would be exposed to overexposure covering average 3-4 hours a day of TV viewing and maybe seven days a week, and maybe many years. So it cannot be said there is no safety issue and it is being watched carefully. This is uncertain ground the electronics companies are treading in. Being sensitized to something can happen overnight, and there is concrete evidence of computer LCD exposure and excessive use to confirm that you would no longer be able to use a PC or laptop or even work in an office at a computer workstation. All serious stuff if you take the trouble to read as I did.

Strobing and flash photography affects the brains impulses, unless of course Didier you don't have a brain, so there wouldn't be much to worry about :)

Its a physic fact put two indifferent beating oscillators in close proximity and in time they will synchronise. If a PC CPU is not clocked correctly , then corruption occurs, and a human being's brain is just as susceptible so your motor functions and even heart could go haywire, hence the concerns with pshzitzo types who are at risk with similar situations.

What is an 'indifferent beating oscillator' ? Do tell!

Ray, you misread the sentence. I never said Oscillator :)

Confused of Carshalton here. Message #16, last para, first sentence, quote "two indifferent beating oscillators"?

You got it right this time as " oscillators " Ray, earlier email was in the singular and didn't make sense in the context of your interpretation. Now you understand its plural, the sentence is therefore self explanatory. Sorry you don't understand it :) am not going to elaborate further or expand on what I said.
