Hi Guys,
I understand the concerns expressed about people hogging the limelight, but at the N.I.Shads club things are a little different. We play everything live, usually totally "off the cuff" and encourage people to play as much as possible but in a controlled manner. Several of our members have never played with other people never mind in a live band and are enjoying the experience and we encourage them to try rhythm, bass, k/board or drums as well as lead. We continually swop the lineup to achieve this and our members are willing to play sets specifically to allow others to try their hand,ie. at bass. Boring it ain't,we had 19 different combinations last month !! A playlist is made out every month to spread the playing as evenly as possible but we still cater for people who turn up unanounced on the day. We are extremely fortunate that we have been able to field a full backing band, albeit continually changing, since our inception last year,- long may it continue. An interesting consequence of this process is the renewed appreciation of the other Shads and how much the total sound depended on them,- can't be a bad thing.
Des.
