News of Mark Griffiths

Postby George Geddes » 28 Jun 2010, 12:05

According to the July issue of Playmusic, Mark will be alongside Bob Henrit in the backing band for John Verity (ex-Argent) on tour.

He also played on some tracks of the new Verity album:

He also does acoustic gigs with John V. apparently

I had heard recently from Mark and he mentioned this, which is interesting to me, as John Verity was the guitarist with Dave Berry who for some reason didn't turn up one night at the Cavendish club in Sheffield and I was asked by Dave's band at the time (The Richard Kent Style) to dep for him, which subsequently got us the job as Berry's next band for the next five years. Small world eh ! :)

Dave,

Where did Frank White fit in as lead guitarist with the Cruisers? Was he in the group before you?

Didn't he have a white Gibson double neck guitar at some stage?

Hi John,
Frank White did allegedly acquire the first Gibson SG Twin Neck in the country at that time and was in the second generation of Cruisers from 1964 through to early 1966 but he and Johnny Riley (our current drummer) left in protest of Berry's choice of material (Mama) and they were replaced by Roy Ledger on guitar (who inspired me to go down the Hank route at school) with Roger Jackson taking over on drums, with The Richard Kent Style from Manchester taking over a year or so after that. We replaced them in 1970 and were with Dave through 'til 1977 apart from a short break around 1975. I last worked with Berry in 1995 for a week whilst he got his guitarist sorted out, quite enjoyed it as one of the gigs was at Lakeside where Shadowmania was later to be held - there were 14 old sixties acts there incuding The Merseybeats & Fourmost , really enjoyable for a week . . . . . . . :)
