Nice one Jim I will probably order some over next few weeks as I am getting low but have another set of DR's to use. They are well prices for pure nickel strings the JP. I have the Roto purples on my strat at present and they are a good string in my view. I am tending to leave my strings on much longer now as I like the tone of them after a few weeks of playing they are somewhat fuller and fatter sounding ! Let us know what you think :D

Just put a set of John Pearse 12's on my strat. Initially they seem to be a good string set. I will try and report back as to how they compare with the DR's I was using till I put these on.

I have John Pearce strings on my National Steel Guitar. When I bought this instrument a year go from a specialist National Guitar reseller they recommended these strings as the best for this instrument and I have stuck with them. Been very pleased with them but, of course, this is a very specialist instrument. I use 13 - 56s but with the 13 replaced by a 15. The guitar is kept in open tuning either in G or D predominently for blues slide work.

Said I would report back on these strings

am happy to say they are a great set of strings with a balanced tone across the strings certainly right for the Shadows tunes. Not sure if I prefer them over DR's though cannot make my mind up and in any case you need to make your own minds up as to whats right for yourselves .. but I do like these and they are priced well...

Oh... and they are roundwound.

I don't intend to use them on a Stratocaster. In due course, (not immediately), they will go onto my Gibson ES-175, replacing a D'Addario flatwound set installed about a year ago. I also ordered a set of "Roto Purples" which have the same gauge. They (the Rotos) might go onto a Strat...

I'll report back in the fullness of time.

JN

And here I am, doing so on 10th February 2015.

The John Pearse strings didn't go onto the ES-175. They went onto an ES-335 in the middle of 2012, and two and a half years later, they still sound resonant, reasonably metallic, sonorous and in tune. Admittedly, I don't play the 335 every day...

A few years back I was fortunate to have a few months 'internship' with one of the UK's most experienced repairer's & luthier's. He used to reckon DR stood for "Dire Rubbish" and would never, ever use them on any guitar!

I used to use a luthier here in Dublin (Derrick Nelson)and he said they were crap too, impossible to do the intonation with them, though I still prefer them over ernie ball (10-52s). regards Gary

Now you mention it Gary, I remember that it was a similar inability to achieve correct intonation that was the basis of the comment about them made to me.

I've been using DR 12-52 on my 65 Burns Marvin for a couple of years. They play perfectly in tune...

Hi Jim, Ive never had tuning probs with them either, In my case I reckon the luthier had boxes of daddarios in stock and was trading on the fact that he looks after The Edges guitars,,he showed me 2 of his black 70s strats named "Bullet" and "Streets" strung with daddario 11-49 to prove it. Iconic for U2 fans perhaps but nothing special to anyone else. Gary
