1960 EMI studio version
1964 Live In Holland (with John Rostill)
1969 Live In Japan version (with Alan Hawkshaw)
1975 Paris Olympia (with John Farrar)
1978 Live at The London Palladium version (with Alan Jones and Cliff Hall)
1989 Rollover re-recording
1989 Live In Liverpool
1990 Shadowmix version (an edit of the Rollover re-recording).

What about the 2004 live Final Tour version recorded in Cardiff ?
It's available on CD...

Guess why The Shadows made new studio recordings of some of their early hits for the "At their very best" album in 1989...

Hi all. On the subject of lists, my question is; Where can I get hold of a list of all The Shadows official UK LP releases? Including new pressings, stereo, mono pressings etc, etc.
My LP collection was started many years ago, the target being all the UK vinyl LP releases. I do have quite a few overseas releases but I dont know if my UK collection is complete.
Regards Geoff.

The closest you can get to achieving this, is to get hold of a copy of Malcolm Campbell's book "The Shadows At EMI - The Vinyl Legacy" (now out of print, but maybe obtainable via eBay or elsewhere), Malcolm Campbell's book "The Shadows At Polydor - The 1980's And Beyond" (still in print) and Malcolm Campbell and Les Woosey's book "A Guide To The Shadows And Hank Marvin On CD" (the 2005 updated edition, still in print). See for more details Malcolm's website: http://www.malcolmcampbell.me.uk.

Hi Ivo, Thanks for the quick reply. I do have Malcolm's book so it looks as though I will have to sit down with the book and go through it in more detail than I have done previously. Again thanks for the pointer.
Regards Geoff.

Ah, mon ami, there is an easy answer to that: I haven't got it - so it's not in my collection and not in my database!

Live in Holland? I've never heard of that CD? Is it a bootleg or can it be bought legally?

This is a brilliant and very worthy thread. The thing I really would love to know is how many times the Shadows and Hank himself have actually played Apache in their glorious careers. Yes maybe I should get out more too, but it must be in the thousands. What an achievement. No need for reply, just a musing.

Here's the "Live In Holland" entry from my database:

CLIFF RICHARD AND THE SHADOWS LIVE IN HOLLAND '64-'65 CD
RICHARD, Cliff & SHADOWS, The
1995 (compiled)
Aulica (Italy)
A 165 (mono)

THE SHADOWS:
1. The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt
2. Nivram
3. Stingray
4. Tonight
5. Big 'B'
6. Don't Make My Baby Blue (v)
7. Let It Be Me (v)
8. Dance On!
9. Sleepwalk
10. Apache
11. Foot Tapper
12. FBI

CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS:
13. Do You Want To Dance?
14. Medley:
(a) The Young Ones
(b) Living Doll
(c) Lucky Lips
(d) Bachelor Boy
15. I Could Easily Fall (In Love)
16. The Minute You're Gone
17. On The Beach
18. Don't Talk To Him
19. Angel
20. Spanish Harlem
21. Da Doo Ron Ron
22. It's All In The Game
23. Long Tall Sally
24. The Time In Between

As you can see by the track listing, there are songs which were played live only around the relevant period(s). The Cliff/Shadows medley is the same one as they once did on a 1965 appearance on "Sunday Night At The London Palladium" and for the VHS video "The Hit List", Lucky Lips was extracted from it, explaining why it was a shortened version.

Italian copyright law was quite liberal in respect of live recordings until 1995. They ran out of copyright after about 25 years, meaning that the release (in Italy) of the recordings above was legitimate in Italy in 1994/1995. In the second half of 1995, Italian copyright law changed to be more or less in line with the rest of the EU. So the makers of the disc couldn't press it today - that would be a breach of rights.

I have a copy, but I understand that this CD (a pressed disc- not CD-R) is actually quite rare.
