I have a copy of a 10" LP 'The Shadows Live on Tour '78' recorded at the Congreshal, Den Haag, Holland, in Feb 1978.
It appears to be very unofficial recording made by someone in the audience and is released on Mustang Records 281040.
Anyone else have this?
Cheers,
JB

Aulica (Italy)
A 165 (mono)

THE SHADOWS:
1. The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt
2. Nivram
3. Stingray
4. Tonight
5. Big 'B'
6. Don't Make My Baby Blue (v)
7. Let It Be Me (v)
8. Dance On!
9. Sleepwalk
10. Apache
11. Foot Tapper
12. FBI

CLIFF RICHARD & THE SHADOWS:
13. Do You Want To Dance?
14. Medley:

(c) Lucky Lips
(d) Bachelor Boy
15. I Could Easily Fall (In Love)
16. The Minute You're Gone
17. On The Beach

19. Angel
20. Spanish Harlem
21. Da Doo Ron Ron
22. It's All In The Game
23. Long Tall Sally
24. The Time In Between

As you can see by the track listing, there are songs which were played live only around the relevant period(s). The Cliff/Shadows medley is the same one as they once did on a 1965 appearance on "Sunday Night At The London Palladium" and for the VHS video "The Hit List", Lucky Lips was extracted from it, explaining why it was a shortened version.

Italian copyright law was quite liberal in respect of live recordings until 1995. They ran out of copyright after about 25 years, meaning that the release (in Italy) of the recordings above was legitimate in Italy in 1994/1995. In the second half of 1995, Italian copyright law changed to be more or less in line with the rest of the EU. So the makers of the disc couldn't press it today - that would be a breach of rights.

I have a copy, but I understand that this CD (a pressed disc- not CD-R) is actually quite rare.

Tracks 1-7 (The Shadows) and 13-24 (Cliff Richard & The Shadows) are from their concert at the Eurohal in Valkenburg, The Netherlands on the 18th of September, 1965. Tracks 8-12 (The Shadows) were recorded either in Blokker, Leeuwarden or Scheveningen (The Hague), The Netherlands on either the 6th or 7th of May, 1964.
They also did a concert on the 8th of May, 1964 at the Forum in Luik, Belgium. That particular performance was filmed professionally (in black and white) and has been broadcasted on television, as well as snippets of some of the tracks. Should make a fantastic DVD, as the quality is very good!

I have a copy of this record too. However, the date of recording is not February, 1978, but the 14th of October, 1977. This can be detected by Bruce's reference on side one of the record, to Cliff Richard's birthday, which is the 14th of October.

As the title says how many Shads records there are. If you count each title i.e. Wonderful Land count this once, don't then count the track without the orchestral backing, and a further live version ? How many records are there ? Wondeful Land is wonderful Land Count the title Once !
I bet you would find The Shads still have an amazing repatoire without all the add on versions.
The Rapiers would not do a show and say we are going to play Theme For Young Lovers, and later on in their programme play it again and say this is the version without the orchestra. A Track is a Track.

It's available on CD...

Ah, mon ami, there is an easy answer to that: I haven't got it - so it's not in my collection and not in my database!

I don't have it either, I only have the DVD, but it's certainly the same recording !

Following up the good idea to only allow 1 title/version in the list my 'all Shads' iTunes playlist of 600 (already down from 610) now comes crashing down to 440 - using the following rules.

'Live' MWF tracks advertised as Shads tracks are included (but not eg Black Eyes if included as original MWF recording to fill up original concert list). I think these should be omitted next time round though?

Also included

1 Dancing in the Dark only (the long 'weird' version)
2 Johnny B Goodes as one is a vocal
2 No No Ninas as one is an instrumental
Riders in the Sky 90 as well as the original (dubbed) single
Shadoogie 83 as well as the LP original Shadoogie
John's Rocker

Some quite different AV's eg God Only Knows/Razzmataz are all omitted though. One of the re-recorded 'Very Best' tracks maybe ought to be there because of its cool ending - ie The Stranger?

Still checking though!

My memory may well be playing tricks on me, but do I recall Bruce having said that there were nigh on 800 tracks with the Shadows on them? I assume that would have to include all the Cliff material too.

I expect so.

From 1959 onward, The Shadows would have appeared on about eight Cliff Richard single-sides per year, as well as around fifteen to twenty album and EP tracks (most of even Cliff's early LPs featured tracks with no Shads on - maybe apart from Tony Meehan on drums). However, this was obviously something which declined throughout the sixties. So something like eight years could have produced the 200+ extra tracks in Bruce's estimate.
