Perhaps something like two Quad Electrostatics used as a stacked pair driven by the appropriate Quad II amps would have given a cleaner sound source for the echo/reverb.

Keep in mind that such Tannoy speakers have a concentric tweeter and have a fairly wide bandwidth. Anyhow, the extreme bass and treble were certainly cut from what was sent to the reverb chamber...

Thats something I recall reading too Didier that only the middles were used in the reverb to aid the overall clarity of the sound so thats a good point too 8-)

Hi,

I know for a fact that Charlie's patches for the Q2, Q20 and Magicstomp have
the Abbey Road Reverb patch, not certain which of the others does.

I use the Abbey Road Patch for Mom's vocals when she's singing!!

Geoff Strachan's "Sounds Like The Shadows" patches for the Magicstomp include an Abbey Road reverb.

I have a Q2eftp and a M/Stomp eftp, should i use the A-Rd reverb in the stomp before or after the Q2? . Did i read in Charlies EFTP notes that using the (L) jacks on the back of the Q2, removed the reverb he had put on the patches ?

As far as I know, at this time, EMI didn't use Ferrograph tape recorders, they used their own in-house designed EMI recorders, which were among the best studio recorders then available.
But the studio 2 acoustics and the famous "echo chamber" certainly contributed to "that sound".

Without reviving the Gretsch controversy of some years back, it is known that Hank did record a few tracks with a Gretsch - 'Nivram' for one, and a few Cliff numbers, the names of which escape me at the moment...

George

Hank told us: - Only on "Nivram" and "A girl like you" recording... not more! Maybe on several rehearsal sessions

...Why not

There were some theories about the Gretsch being used on Cliff's Dream EP...

Here are "BTR" recorders built by EMI, and the only ones in use at the Abbey Road studios in the early sixties :

They existed in mono and stereo versions. Multitrack recorders didn't appear in Abbey Road before 1964 (4 tracks Studer J37 recorders).
