Public Liability Insurance

Postby noelford » 04 Oct 2010, 09:08

I posted this on Charlie Hall's forum but wondered if anyone here who doesn't go there might be able to help:

I have public liability insurance for my own business but this cannot be extended to include my extra-curricula musical activities. This has never been a problem until now but I have been told that I will need public liability cover for the Children In Need event I am doing in a Shrewsbury shopping mall.

The problem I am having is that all the insurers I have tried only offer public liability cover for main businesses whereas I just want cover for my occasional musical events. Can anyone recommend a company that can provide this sort of specific cover? I only actually need the cover for one event but I'd be happy to buy cover for longer if necessary.

Cheers

Noel - I don't know whether this will help or not but I'm the treasurer of our local Male Voice Choir and we organise public liability cover through the National Association of Choirs (http://www.nationalassociationofchoirs.org.uk/). The company involved is Hiscox who may extend thier cover to wider musical activities. Look at the website & it might be worth giving the Insurance Partnership a ring.
Good luck!

Join the Musicians Union - you get public liability insurance and instrument insurance as part of the deal.

I have public liability insurance included in my equipment insurance.
There are a number of companies who offer this and I also endorse Dave's MU suggestion.
