NEXT NORTH NOTTS MEETING SUNDAY 17th OCTOBER.

Postby pjr » 10 Oct 2010, 11:59

First of all, the usual 1 week reminder that the next North Notts Club meeting will take place on Sunday 17th October at the usual venue. Details can be found over on the Notts Club page.
All welcome of course.

Secondly, having recently been made aware of unkind and unjust remarks about my running of the club particularly regarding playing time per person etc. I would like to point out that one can only fit a certain amount of playing into the 4 or 5 hours or so that the club runs for. During particularly busy meetings, I sometimes end up not playing at all myself in order that others can.

To perhaps facilitate a little more actual playing time, I would like to get opinions on the following idea before going to the trouble of implementing it:
During the "backing track" session there could be made the opportunity to use backing tracks that have both lead AND rhythm guitars removed and would thus allow two people to play to each backing track. Bear in mind that this would be only for the most popular Shadows tunes, not the obscure stuff and I would like to thank Dave Robinson for making these tracks available to us. It would also help people to develop their rhythm playing skills.

I would welcome any constructive ideas that would enhance the meeting and benefit its format. So if you have any good ones then please let me know and we can discuss them by email, PM, phone or even better face to face.

Cheers,

Pete and the North Notts team.

Thanks for the reminder Pete, Kim and I plan to be there on Sunday, Do you need us to bring the bass amp?

I am amazed that there has been criticism of the way that the club is organised, I have always found that you and the gang do a superb job and make sure that everyone who wants to has a fair 'crack of the whip' the work put in to run these functions too often goes without he deserved praise but people are all too ready with unfounded criticism.

I have taken the decision not to play ( or try to play) lead guitar at clubs but will be available for rhythm duties should anyone require them. Kim will be available for bass as usual.
As at the last meeting we will only play in the 'live session' ( I have a dislike of backing tracks), and this frees up space for others.

With regard to your suggestion, frankly I don't see the need, but if that's what others want to do then fine, just let us know when the live stuff starts!

Take care

I am very surprised and even more annoyed at the folks who have aimed criticism at Pete and the team who run the North Notts club. I have made the effort to attend the majority of meetings since the club started and have consistantly witnessed a fair allocation of playing time given to anybody who wishes to play and as Pete says, in the time given for these meetings they try to give everyone a fair crack of the whip.
The trouble is with clubs, there is always someone who thinks that they can do better and I would invite them to try and run such a club yourselves - you will find that it takes a lot of hard graft and patience dealing with moaners, maybe then you will smell the coffee.
I won't be able to make it this time but I hope everyone has a great time, as the majority normally do. :)

In my opinion, North Notts is well run as it is and there is no need for change. I wish that I could get the Congleton club to run as smoothly, but I have only been running it for two meetings so far. CARRY ON PETE, you are doing a great job.
Tony, Nigel, Clive (Drummer) and myself will be with you next Sunday, and we have been looking forward to what we are sure will be another GREAT afternoon.

Pete

i fully endorse what Pete (Creasey), Dave ("Robbo"), Ecca ("Curmedgeon" - Ecca where on earth do you get these esoteric nicknames from!) and Paul's opinions on the club. It's a great club - you run it very well and "R" Lass does us all proud by supplying us with snacks at what I suspect is a subsidised, or at least break even price.
Keep up the good work - I for one will always support the North Notts Club.

Best Wishes

Tony

Hi Pete and the gang.
For what it's worth, here's my two penny worth on the subject. The North Notts club is well known for being one of the best clubs in the Country, there's no question of that and IMO it doesn't aspire to that sort of status without hard graft and dedication from those who run it. Personally, I don't see the need to change the format if it's merely to satisfy one or two moaners. You've certainly got my support when it comes to your running of a fine club - long may it continue!
See you Sunday.
Cheers

Hi pete & all involved at whitwell. Must agree with geoff, whitwell has been running for a number of years now & imho is a great club. I play rhythm & so yeah, if its possible to play lead & rhythmless backing tracks & get a couple of guys playing together especially on busy afternoons, then why not? Its a fair sugestion but not something critical. After all its an afternoon of music & fun (or should be) & it beats shopping & housework.
best wishes, steve.
