Hank playing dual solo ??

If I remember rightly a short time ago fans were asking if Hank had ever played duel guitar on any tracks (apart from Nivram) in the past? I can't remember the original topic posted so apologies for not tracking it down...

I had heard Hank do this, but couldn't remember the number! Sorting back through some of my old vynils I found the title again and, sure enough, Hank is duetting with (I think Bruce) on the middle solo. The number in question is an old Cliff release from the early 60s:

''Now's the Time to Fall In Love'' - the B-side of a ''A Girl Like You'' (1961).

Its a cracking sound with a fantastic driving sub-rhythm/riff running all the way through. That rich harmonic thick early strat sound is present on this solo which you could listen to for hours! I think it's a great number.

"Now's the Time to Fall in Love" does seem to have a solo by Hank added over the first solo. Bruce's rhythm contines in the background so maybe this is the the first example of this.

Somewhere in the depths of my memory, I remember Bazz the bass in his general chat at our shows, mentioning something about Hank playing
lead and then having to play the rhythm as well on "Theme for young Lovers" due to Bruce being in hospital at the time the recording was due
to take place. I Think .

I thought that was Bruce and Hank - and that TFAFP was one of the (two) songs on the first LP which fall within the category "harmony pieces", praised by Cliff Richard in the album's sleeve-notes?

Jim is correct, these two numbers are duets. And Hank did indeed play both rhythm and lead on TFYL.

I trust that all UB Bruces out there will - like myself - amed their playing style accordingly for that number... >

There are a several dual tracked numbers. The Magic Doll is my favourite, Drina is triple tracked, and Tennessee Waltz features an overdub lead guitar in the trademark ad lib section. I'm sure a little research would throw up more examples.

Incidentally the muted section of Atlantis is clearly on a separate track (they overlap in the coda), does that count?

Funnily enough, being the 'Bruce' in my band, I actually play the Lead guitar part in TFYL, & John, our 'Hank', plays the Rhythm.

Yes, Jim, I know that. I thought John's post was alluding to Hank's harmonised tracks with Bruce.

Another harmony track is The Girls from The Boys EP.
