*GET READY TO RUMBLE!*
13 Guitar Rumble to Honor Link Wray

Save the date, note your calendar, check flight and train schedules, Marksalot your hand but don't miss
the 13 GUITAR RUMBLE: THE LINK WRAY TRIBUTE at the REDWOOD BAR & GRILL Downtown Los Angeles, on Friday, November 19 at 9PM. 316 W. 2nd St.

13 GUITAR RUMBLE honors the late, great guitarist LINK WRAY, the man who
invented the power chord. Wray's notable songs include "Ace of Spades,"
"Jack the Ripper," and his banned from radio/signature reverb classic, "Rumble." Wray
toured relentlessly for over five decades until just weeks before his death in November 2005. Originally conceived in 2006 by Burnin' Mike Vernon of Austin, Texas' 3 Balls of Fire, the show features different combination's of L.A. guitarists playing the Wray catalog culminating with thirteen guitarists on stage playing “Rumble” at the same time!!

Performing in memory of Wray will be DAVE ALVIN (Blasters) DEKE DICKERSON, PETE CURRY (Los Straitjackets), PAUL JOHNSON (The Surfaris, Belairs) JOHN BLAIR (Jon & The Nightriders), BILLY BLASTOFF (Detonators) SKIP HELLER (worked with Les Baxter and Robert Drasnin) DAVE ARNSON (Insect Surfers), SYLVIA JUNCOSA, DAVE WRONSKI (Slacktone), CHRISTIAN FRIZZELL (Champagne Velvet), DUSTY WATSON (Agent Orange), MIKE VERNON (3 Balls of Fire, Danny & The Steak Knives) and SURPRISE MYSTERY GUESTS!!
The evening will open with L.A.'s super bad surf guitar trio, SLACKTONE,

LA's hottest space-age, crime-jazz unit – DANNY & THE STEAK KNIVES
and the men with the burning guitars, 3 BALLS OF FIRE, performing original, high octane, road-tested, surf-drenched Texas twang and celebrating their 23rd anniversary this year. LINK WRAY hand-picked Vernon to lead his band at the 2005 Ponderosa Stomp in New Orleans. The 13 Guitar Rumble was also featured at the 2006 Pipeline Festival in London with members of the Ventures, The Space Agency, Shadows and 3 Balls of Fire.

Hello, Abel and Christina.

You are right of course - I would love to be able to see that show tomorrow night. Deke Dickerson in particular - I know he is big favourite with you and with Tony Chan from New Mexico. But you got me that invitation to Big Tiki Dude's birthday party at Placentia, and it was an excellent substitute, with many familiar faces playing and in attendance, including John Blair, Darve Amson, Dave Wronski, Jim Frias and loads of other LA musicians, as well as the chance to hear Outer Wave, The Sand Devils, The Tequila Worms and Slacktone. And of course... your own inimitable version of The Savage!

We really enjoyed our all-too-short visit to California, the sights and sounds of Hollywood, Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Long Beach and Anaheim, all topped off by your incredible wangling of an invitation to meet Dick Dale on his boat at Balboa just before the flight out... unbelievable!

I'll be back...

When are you coming to the UK?

Best wishes,

JimN

PS: Have a great time in downtown LA tomorrow night. That 13-guitar version of Rumble was played at Pipeline in 2006. I was there...
