James Burton on Jazzmaster?!

Great to hear James Burton playing (live or not) - the very last part of his solo is straight from his time with Elvis (or vica-versa). Terrific.

Hi Malcolm,it looks like James Burton is going on tour again in 2012 with the ELVIS in Concert show. I think about a dozen dates are lined up, i've just got tickets for the Sheffield arena on the 9th March 2012. Hope it's as good as last Febuary what a an excellent night!!!!!

James is still James, regardless of his tools of trade.

I remember seeing Roy Buchanan live years ago- the support band and the concert MC gave him the big build up- the 'master of the Telecaster' etc.

Out strolled Roy onto the stage, carrying a bottle of local beer in one hand and a STRATOCASTER in the other- which was what he played!!!

The clip was from Ricky Nelsons' family TV show called Ozzie & Harriet (Ricky's parents). The show featured Rick and his band, in a clip like this one, at the end of a show once in a while.

There is zero chance that James' HML solo was played on a JazzMaster. A JM has an unmistakeable sound and this aint it.

I used tro watch that show regularly as a kid living in the United States . . . Ricky's older brother was Dave. Wow, that was so long ago!!

I know that James Burton didn't play this famous solo on the Jazzmaster. It just seemed like a nice topic for discusson when I saw him with the Jazzmaster!!!

Although I wonder, Jim says that a Jazzmaster can sound like a Telecaster!!

Hi Dave, thanks for that - I'll keep a lookout. A friend of mine went to one of these 'concerts' a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. He was more interested in the Elvis thing than the musicians on stage though - I think I'd like both.

Yah, Bojan....O&H is a great show.

A JM can sorta sound like a Tele, but it doesn't have the same byte 2 it.
It's primarily known for the sound obtained by the PUP switch in the middle position....which is what the early Ventures sound was.
