I've just been listening to Hank's 'Guitar Man' album, having not heard it for ages. It's just as I remembered - bland, uninspiring, over-long intros & outros, and proof that a good song doesn't necessarily make a good instrumental. OK, so we all have differing tastes, and even Hank can't please all of the people all of the time, but I'd be interested to know if anyone out there shares my view, or if I'm in a minority of one!

I agree and because of my lukewarm review in Shadsfax magazine of the Guitar Man album I reckon I may have blown any chance I had of meeting the boys on the Cliff & Shadows tour, even after Hank said hope to catch up with me in Dublin or Sheffield. The call never came but for others it did!!

Yes it wasnt up to his usual standard - seems to have got into a rut, and it was more of the same! Jet's "Journey" was much more adventurous, released around the same time.

Too right Hoffers, far be it that the fans should have an opinion eh ? We only buy the bloody things and keep them in wages.
The words by, date, past and sell spring to mind.
In truth 1960 to '63 was when it happened - for me the rest can fall out. What's that I hear you say 'I sound disenchanted' -- it doesn't even begin to cover it.Theres' so much more to life

Come on lads dont be negative I have got to aggree Ken it is the Album of Hanks I like the least, but it is stil pretty good playing
If only I could play half as good. Everybody goes through a bad time at some point, I think Hank was sort of in between things.
Gypsy Jazz - Back to the 60s with Cliff, - Unplugged (Guitar Player) it seemed to me he was at a stage in his life he was a bit out
on a limb, and not sure what direction to take. But he has given us some great music over the years, I am trying to catch up with it all.
and you cant say 'Here there and Everywhere' is a bad track ?? can you ?

Bit of a typo there, Dave - 'Guitar Player' is one of my favourite albums! "A-Tall A-Tall Dark Stranger" is the stand-out track for me.

And Tracy - there's no doubting Hank's mastery of the guitar, but the 'Guitar Man' album is just not my cup of tea. As Dave says, "one man's meat...."

The funny thing about the album as even though it's one of my least played album it's been Hank's most successful to date, it made number 6 on the UK charts, but some of the tracks do sound like elevator music and some tracks such as 'You've got a friend' are far too long. But there are a few tracks such as 'Summer house' and 'Nine million bicycles' which are standouts.
Guitar Player was a much better album, it was refreshing to hear a whole abum of acoustic music for a change. It has some great playing on it as well.
Come on Hank, give us 'Guitar player 2'!!!
