I have to agree with Keith, The playing in unchained melody is particularly melodic.

I can only 'echo' what's been said about Hank's particular sound and the Shads interpretation in general of Unchained Melody... sent a shiver down me spine the first time I heard it! On the rockier side, I've always been impressed by Hank letting rip on Nine Times Out Of Ten, cracking stuff!

Listen to Hank on 'The Joy of Living'. An amazing, distorted sound on a slow but powerful riff. Only heard it for the first time recently, but I think it's one of Hank's most dramatic moments.

...Without You (from 21 Today), Just a Little Bit Too late (b-side of On My Word), Somebody Loses (b-side of Blue Turns to Grey), Time in Between...all have great guitar playing from Hank

Looks as if I'll have to dust off my copy of "Unchained Melody" ...

Agree with Chris on "Joy Of Living" -- that and "Throw Down The Line" showed how far Hank could push the boundaries.

Good one Clive on "Without You" -- you tend to forget certain numbers until you hear them again.

Hank's input on Cliff's recordings is a rather large treasure trove and some tracks can pass you by.

I agree with all the above!!

Plus - from the Burns era - what about The Time In Between? Simply stunning and quite unlike anything before or since.

We could go on forever. Lets face it, if Hank played the Tettley Tea tune it would sound great. That would then start a debate on what tv ads they should do.

Or classic themes they did not do, or that you would like to hear. "Green leaves of summer" or "Love is Blue". Some Gene Pitney songs would work well. Why not a new album?

Sorry Just having a laugh! stay happy  :D

You're right Ian -- like so many other threads this was simply meant to be a bit of fun where people could reminisce and exchange thoughts. Tbe hit-making days were a long time ago and we can only look back now -- hopefully with happy memories. Go backstage with 60s artists and you will find many a conversation along these lines, including the ifs and maybes.

What makes it more interesting than I originally thought is that you tend to forget how huge a catalogue Hank recorded with Cliff and how easy it is to forget certain tracks until reminded here.
