There used to be a way of downloading to a wmv file, then extracting the drm code using a clever little free programme, which allowed the new file to be burned to dvd. However the BBC have got wise to that and the new file format cannot be treated by this free programme any more. Hopefully somebody will come up with a workaround. After all we have paid a licence and surely once broadcast a programme is in the public domain

It's not that simple, unfortunately. Your licence entitles you to operate a TV set. it doesn't give you ownership of the material broadcast, which is copyright and subject to terms and conditions. As those who would like access to old BBC Shads material know only too well. A workaround would be great but best kept very quiet!
