Simkins Youth Club.

In the film The Young Ones The Shadows Played the part of a youth club band, they had Fender guitars & bass, Vox AC30 amps and a Gretsch drum kit and this was in 1961.
Looks like it wasn't only Nicky Black who was a millionare's son

Very true - in 63 we had Futuramas, Selmers, Fenton Weil and a mixture of various drums! The PA speakers were 2 x 1 12" in home made boxes! Oh and 2 Vox reslo mics!

To be fair, there is also the "exploding amp" scene elsewhere in that film, more reminiscent of reality! Some of the instruments were older too.

Come on now. The Fenders and Vox AC30s were part of the parcel. They were just a 'dream' for most of us lesser mortals. Imagine the comments if they played Futuramas/ Guyatones etc and the same sound was heard

I don't know about drums, but at this time, guitars and amps were lended to the Shadows by Vox (JMI)...
They received the rosewood neck Strats in march/april 1961, not long before the shooting started.

The band in the stage show 'Dreamboats and petticoats' also seem to have rich parents too - fenders and Marshalls...

George

PS: It is still a great show, though...

Didier, what Paul was saying is that the characters that The Shadows were playing were apparently rich enough to own such equipment! :)

That very clip of The Shadows playing The Savage was THE moment for me.

Of course Paul's original post was meant to be 'tongue in cheek'. It's a musical and is all fantasy anyway...
