Great early photo - Hank's got his new Strat and not a Vox in sight. Though the amp line-up has been seen before in other photos, interesting nevertheless.

Hank's amp looks like a Selmer Selectortone. I had one of those which I bought from Macari's Music Exchange in Burnt Oak. There was a 13 amp socket on the back which they told me was for an extention speaker - oh no it wasn't, it was mains and I blew a 12 inch speaker finding out. I went back to the shop and they were very sympathetic, giving me 2 speakers from a Vox amp!

Bruce and Hank's amps do look like Selmers to me, but what is that huge box behind Jet? He is even casting a SHADOW on its front....

Is that his custom built Pepe Rush bass amp rig which is also pictured in '17 Watts'?

One other thing is for sure, at that point in that number,Cliff was having a bad attack of 'Elvis leg'....although Elvis' trousers in the '50's were nearly always big baggy things, whereas rockers elsewhere were wearing tight trousers, probably from the strong Italian men's fashion influence at that time- late '50's...

By your fashion editor

(Bugger what the guitars are, what were they WEARING, dearie?) ;)

[quote="Ludwig"]A glass plate was apparently discovered last month of a photo of Cliff & The Drifters appearing at The Savoy, Abington Square, Northampton, October 6th, 1959:

:?: last appearance as The Drifters :?:

The Night Cliff's Band became The Shadows

Cliff Richard and The Shadows at The Halifax Odeon October 7th 1959
"When Cliff appeared in October 1959 he had already topped the British pop charts for six weeks that summer with Living Doll”

The rumours had been circulating among teenage fans. But now the concert was official.
News that Cliff Richard and The Drifters, as they were originally called, were to appear at the Halifax Odeon was released on September 12, 1959.
The date would be Wednesday October 7 and there would be two shows.
