I´m sure Bruce borrowed the archtop Gibson Electric Spanish 125 for the photosession. It must be the same guitar, seen in the b/w photo of Lord Rockingham`s XI orchestra, as being played by the guitarist in the upper row.
The photographer of the Rollercaster Records vinyl (ROLL2026) covershot is Allen Newton. A slightly different picture taken from the same spot appeared as front cover for Picturegoer magazine in March 1959. This is a b/w picture with tinted colours, Cliff in white jacket, red socks and tie, pinkish shirt and throusers !It is really a thrill to finally see the original full colour shot on the record sleeve.
Inside, the magazine middlefold story begins with
"Get a load of Cliff Richard cutting his first long-player, to be released next week. Picturegoer`s Allen Newton, who also took the cover picture, photographed him making it the-off-beat way.
Usually, during these sessions, silence in the studio is golden. Not here. In fact, to bolster background effects, over a hundred of his fans were invited along to make as much noise as they liked.
Which raises a point. How will Richard fans who buy the LP take to all this hubbub on their costly disc? Would`nt they prefer to hear Cliff loud - and also clear?
Athmosphere, explained the eighteen-year-old-rock`nroller. It helps with the right effect."
The lenghty interview continues with a brief comments on Elvis and announcing Cliff`s up-coming small film role in "Serious Charge".
