Backing Tracks??

Postby MagicOurMorris » 08 Oct 2009, 17:12

I find that the backing tracks for Kon-Tiki - Dance On - plus one or two others on my UBHank backing track to be a little bit too quick in tempo, especially if and when compared to the tempo of these tunes when listened/played to on The Final Tour cd.
Does anyone else find this? or is it simply just me. Out of interest I would appreciate hearing members views / suggestions as to which are the most realistic backing tracks currently available.
Best Regards to all.

Hi, Keith,

In my opinion, the most realistic backing track series is the "That Sound!" series, created by Maurizio Mazzini and engineered by Roberto Pistolesi. The drums certainly sound less mechanical than some other tracks and the rhythm guitar tone is crisp and bright.

Kon-Tiki and Dance On are included in the listings on volume 3 (I believe the three CDs are available from Leo's Den).

As with the U B Hank collections, all the Shads tracks are backing tracks (sometimes alternative ways of ending a tune - coda or fade-out) rather than half of them being demonstration versions. So for instance, on Volume 3, you get fourteeen separate Shads tunes, plus some alternative endings, plus a demo and BT for one original Mazzini instrumental.

Still, for all that, even with the more natural sound of the tracks, I notice that if you spin in a Mazzini recording for a club player, they often get a panicky expression on their faces as though the tune's going to turn out different or something (eh, David? ;) ).

You can't win 'em all...

BTW: Do you know how to create a version of your existing track tht's a bit slower (but in the same key)? It's not too difficult...

Thanks for your response to my thread on backing tracks Jim, much appreciated and as always, very interesting.
Re- your last comment, sad to say I have no idea how to slowdown the backing track speed and would be grateful to know how as long as its not too techy.
Many Thanks Jim.
Best Regards

Keith
many recording software programs have the ability to change speed and key.
Adobe Audition certainly does. Example - I have increased the speed of the UBH "FLingel Bunt" by 5% and it sounds much less pedestrian.
If you have no software, maybe the "Audacity" FREE DOWNLOAD software does too. Worth checking
cheers

ps - If you have a specific requirement I could always do it for you - send me a PM.
