JamVox

Hi All,

Just come across the hardware/software package "JamVox", this may be due to the ostrich syndrome, as it's been out for a while.

Having watched some demos, etc, on YouTube, I am now contemplating a purchase.

I would be grateful for any help/advice/opinions on this product, particularly with a view to taking out the lead instrument or vocal, and re-recording it as a BT, for personal use.

Regards

Brian

Taking the lead out doesn't work in all cases, it all depends on how the tune was recorded and mixed. If the lead is mono (same amplitude and phase on both channels) while the backing is in real stereo, it will work.
Adobe Audition and most other sound recording softwares have such a feature, JamVox is no different.

Hi,

I have one and had it updated to version 1.52. My overall impressions are that it is overloaded with modelling amps and effects. I use it for removing bass and it seems to work reasonably well for this but there is overall loss in quality of what's left, and depending on the original recording some bass bits are not completely removed. It takes a bit of time to work your way round it. I have never used it for removing lead and playing with various effects.

There is another thing you may like to know. You can play through it and record what you are playing, to record it onto a MD you have to do it directly using Jamvox end jackplugs with phono connectors into the MD end. I'm no tech expert but find it a bit fiddley but at the price it does a reasonable but not ideal extraction for MD. I don't know of any other comparable systems, maybe someone can help us.

The original impression I had was that it was primarily an extractor of lead, bass, vocals etc, which it does, but it is moreso an effects/amp modelling device with extraction as a secondary function.

Kind regards, Luigi

The Vocal Zapper designed by Craig Anderton back in the late 70s/early 80s does the trick well provided that the lead is in the middle. I think it cost me less than £1 to build, but I do know my way around a soldering iron.
