"Song for Duke"- Spot the Bass player.

Postby captainhaddock » 15 Mar 2011, 17:02

Following another excellent posting by Andrewshadowy of "Song for Duke", the question has arisen, "Who is the Bass-player"?. Someone has identified him as Alan Jones, but I think that is wrong. So do you know?.
Another question is, "Why did The Shadows never have a permanent Bass player after reforming in 1973". I believe that John Rostill was meant to re-join once he had fulfilled his contract with Tom Jones, but there never seemed to be a full time replacement, was there a reason ?

Many thanks for the answer(s). It now leads onto another question, "Who is/was Geoff Atherton"?. I have googled his name and found that he also played bass for Marvin Welch and Farrar. The only current musician of the same name is a Sax player, could they be one and the same?.

I believe George Ford was the bass player on the 2 weeks European tour in 1980 (last part of String of hits tour?)
The Change of Address tour for the autumn 1980 was with Alan Jones on bass guitar.
Here is a live version of the title track on Change of Adress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swEt3_BorC4

Please correct me if I am wrong, I have not checked the facts, but think I was told this some years ago.
