Please don't change the tone of this thread, it's a thread to post your feelings and
condolences about Jets passing............I'm sure others like myself do not want this to be anything other than a comfort for Janet and Jets family and friends to read........Thankyou

(Agreed and so I've deleted the relevant parts of these posts and I hope the posters will concur... DavidM)

Many fans from Spain and South America who don´t speak English, asked me to offer their condolences to the family and friends after such sad news.

Whitesnake's original bass player, Neil Murray, posted a few words of tribute to Jet on his facebook page. He also points out that the Shadows' first LP was actually the very first album that he ever bought. I wonder how many other bass players throughout the world are echoing those sentiments?

I would suspect very many,Jet featured the bass from the very start, brought it from the back of the stage to the very front. Also probably the first bass solo most people ever heard was in Nivram. A question,- did any of the other Shads emulate Jet's solo success, chartwise?

Brian May has done a nice little piece on his website on Jet.

Glad that you spotted this.

His tribute and photograph says it all and the fact that it is written by a great guitarist adds even more weight to this sad loss.

Well said Brian May.

Read this in the Littlejohn column in the Daily Mail yesterday (22nd March) and thought I'd post it.

Jet Was a Diamonds Geezer

It’s a shame the death from throat cancer of ex-Shadows bass guitarist Jet Harris has been overshadowed by an accusation that Cliff Richard failed to offer to help pay for specialist treatment for his former band member. Only a couple of weeks ago, despite being seriously ill, Jet played a benefit concert which raised £1,700 for Help for Heroes. He was a seminal figure in the history of British rock ‘n’ roll and an acknowledged influence on generations of guitarists who came later. Jet’s generosity should be his epitaph.

Richard Littlejohn, Daily Mail, 22nd March, 2011
