Des - Tony had "Song Of Mexico" (Tony Meehan Combo) - a minor hit in 1964 & that was it. Bruce never had any solo success - but then, he didn't bother to release very much. Hank had a minor chart hit with "Don't Talk" (1982) - but he's enjoyed considerable success in the LP / CD charts with: "Hank Marvin" (1969), "Words And Music" (1982),"Into The Light" (1992), "Heartbeat" (1993), "Hank Plays Cliff" (1995), "Hank Plays Holly" (1996), "Hank Plays Live" (1997), "Marvin At The Movies" (2000), "Guitar Player" (2002) and "Guitar Man" - so that little lot must give him the edge overall.

I would like to share this picture of Jet and Tony in the 70s or 80s, with all the Shads fans.

Of the many things he gave me over time this picture has always been a favourite item as it reflects the Terry we knew at the time, off stage and away from pressure. I think he may have taken this himself with a time-lapse when he used to visit Tony on the odd occasion. He was very proud of it at the time. I have blurred out the personal message above his signature deliberately.

So sad to hear this news.I am very surprised that it has not been shown on news programs considering the legend he became! I have fond memories of his wonderful sense of humour at the Shadowmania shows.He will be greatly missed although he has left a great legacy!

As usual Hank's single, 'Sacha', which topped the Australian charts for weeks has been left out of the conversation. But, then again, we are only the colony where HBM now lives....... but let's get back to the purpose of this thread, RIP for Jet ?

No probs. I took the question to refer to the UK charts only. I have little or no info on Australian national / regional charts. How did Jet, Jet / Tony fare in Australia chartwise?

I think it was from 'Diamonds' (No3, 6 weeks on the charts) onwards that they (Jet in particular) made it to top ten status out here - 'Man With the Golden Arm', 'Besame Mucho' had been previously released but I don't think they made any real impact other than to Shads fans who knew of him - 'Scarlett O'Hara' made the top 10 charts as did 'Applejack', however I think the release of 'Big Bad Bass' (Jet) and "Song of Mexico' (Tony) co-incided with the 'demise of the instrumentals' at that time, and although they did make the charts only stayed around for a couple of weeks. Jet was well known as a member of 'The Shadows' out here, however I'd say that Jet as an individual only come to the fore with the movie 'Just for Fun', with 'Man from Nowhere' being a well respected offering that caught our attention (an excellent clip IMHO) but I don't believe was ever released on disc out here as a single, it was on the soundtrack LP from the movie though (which I still have a copy of) -of course also at that time Jet and Tony had teamed up and had 'Diamonds' 'running amok' in the charts so that may be an explanation.

All in all, Jet was, and continues to be, one of the great guitar legends of his era in Australia IMHO. RIP Jet.
