Sussex Shadows Club Meeting

Terry, Ray,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for your efforts in setting up today's excellent event. As you know I am regularly tied up with other activities at weekends so this was very much a one off for me, but I really enjoyed it. It was good to hear you both and John playing again as well as all other members who got up to perform. Superb sound from your set-up, made it a real pleasure to play. It was also so great to play with real musicians rather than the backing tracks.

Congratulations on making it through the first year, I am sure the club will go from strength to strength.

All the best.

Brian :)

Hear! Hear! to Brian's comments above. An absolutely brilliant day enhanced by a live band (Chris Kenward: drums and Eric Pole on bass) + Ray, John B and John Cale doing rhythm depending on who knew what! Great stuff. The birthday cakes were a lovely touch too and I think helped make everyone there feel involved. May there be many more as testament to Terry and Ray's organisation, excellent Shad sounds and all welcoming club atmosphere.

A quick personal observation: How often do you hear an accurate Nivram bass solo from the Shads first album performed faultlessly? Well you would have if you'd been at this meet - from the Silver Shadows Eric Pole. Sublime.

I would just like to add my thanks to all who came along to our little celebration, players and supporters.

Special thanks to Chris and Eric on drums and bass and John B, John C & Ray on rythm (I'm never sure how to spell that word!) who made the band sound as though we rehearse three times a week instead of an improvised jam session.

We were saddened to hear of the loss of Ian's mum but delighted that he and his wife still found time to bake us cake.

Jet's major contribution to our music was paid tribute to by Roy Haines and by the early Cliff vocals led by our resident 'Cliff', Don Crisp.

Added to all this good music and banter was a superb Sinatra impression by none other than Derek Misselbrook - excellent! We ask Derek to convey the thoughts and kind wishes from The Sussex Shadows Club to Jet's family and friends on Thursday.

Lastly, many thanks to Sandie (Mrs Ray) who always makes sure that we leave to room clean and tidy, and to the Seaford Constitutional Club, in the shape of Julie,
for their support.

We look forward to year two.

Kind regards

Terry

Terry& Ray,

Another great afternoon, and thanks for organising this. My guestsI and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was an enjoyable experience for me to play wirh a live band for the first time, thanks to our rhythm section.Shame we ran out of time before we could play Wipeout;sure Chris on drums was up for it. Maybe another time.Good to see so many there as well.

The cake was nice too.

I'll p.m you about the strap, my sister has a better memory of where I bought it and when.

Once again thanks to you both, and I didn't miss the big yellow taxi at all!
