Firstly I must congratulate Bojan for his winning entry and fully understand where he is coming from with his design, but I'm not keen on it for two reasons.

A. It's what I call a 'sitting on the fence' design because we've tried to include all of the past members of the band and failed miserably, thus causing a conflict. I also think it makes it look untidy.

B. What the hell is Cliff Richard doing there?

Out of a membership of 750, only 81 bothered to vote and those who didn't shouldn't feel too annoyed so we just need to accept the 'vote'.

First, thank you Dave, second, I feel rather awkward here because a) it's impossible to please everyone, and b) I have offered two viable solutions in post #18 to which no one has responded. It's as if people prefer to argue rather than find a solution . . .

I am offering two possible solutions that I believe are well within the democratic bounds our voting procedure (if the administrators agree):

1. I could easily fit a photo of John Farrar into the existing header design and get rid of Cliff Richard at the same time (as long as someone does not complain later why Cliff Richard is NOT on the header) . . .
or
2. We could replace B5 with B6, which shows all the Shadows and also John Farrar (on the cover of the Specs Appeal Album). I would not mind since B6 is also my design and it did come in second.

Please see illustrations below.

Dave, you are one of the administrators. Can you talk it over with the others and see if one of these solutions works?

It's very understanding and accommodating of you, Bojan, to offer an alternative solution :D . For what it's worth at this stage in the proceedings, I must say that I much prefer your new alternative which is much brighter and more inclusive and representative of times and people, past and present. :)

As just an ordinary member who is not party to management's thinking on this issue, It is my hunch that some of the discontent here has its roots in the system of polling that was used to decide the overall favourite. Yes, first past the post has been an accepted system for years but such are its failings that is now being replaced by those which take into account the interests of the overall majority rather than those of the largest minority. The winning entry polled 21% of those who voted (even less than Tony Blair in 2005 :o ), suggesting a large majority preferred something else. A more representative result might have carried forward the top 5 favourites to a second poll. That said, an even greater majority didn't vote at all, so what does that tell us ? Democracy isn't always what you think it is. :o

Stratyourstuff wrote:Hi Bojan, The last one with John looks OK , but don't like the beard. It doesn't hack it with the clean image The Shadows have and still do have. Maybe there is a beardless photo of him somewhere that doesn't remind me of heavier bands like The Grateful Dead . . .

Steve

Yes, I do have a beardless photo and I can change it, but the management needs to agree on this in principle.

Or, perhaps we should hold a new election and give the "silent majority" a chance to vote for their "candidates" -- but without me :D . . .

I know - Why don't we have a blank box at the top of the page? ;)
Then all we would have to decide is whether to have a border around it and what colour it should be.

Come on guys - We had a competition - those who wanted to vote did so - Bojan won - end of story.

Hear Hear.

Boing, the Board Header is great. You are the winner and job done.

As far as me worrying about it is concerned, as Clark Gable playing Rhett Butler said, "Frankly my dear"..................................

Now then, Bob, where's that red pen that marks the finish of discussions?

Cheers, Alan.
