Are you sure it's the same guitar? The one on that site has a three-colour sunburst finish.

Alainlafrance wrote:Yes; it's fully documented and it's a two-colour sunburst, I know of course, this is our site ;)
Serial # 22102 =>1957

I still don't understand. That guitar...

...has a three colour sunburst. There's a definite area of red within the black shading.

That dosn't mean it's not Hank's old guitar, of course, but my understanding was that three-colour sunburst is vanishingly rare on maple-neck 1950s guitars.

Might come from the colour calibration of your monitor and maybe from a deviance into the red of the camera (although a Nikon D3).
But it is a two tone sunburst as any 1957 sunburst Stratocaster.
Well what about going back to the OP ? ;)

I'm pretty sure that guitar was used on the 'Live at Abbey Road' album from 1982 (i've seen some photos from the session on the CD inlay).

Hank used it on Memory. He told me that himself. He said it had a little bit 'harder' tone than the red one. Of course he could have been telling me porkies and it might have been a Gretsch!!

Hank used the sunburst (two-tone) Strat as a practice/stadby guitar. He was using it in the dressing room at the 1984 NEC reunion when I went up with Jet to meet them all. He would even twiddle on it when talking to you. His main Strat on that tour was a 62 Fiesta Red Strat given to him by a fan in France some years earlier.

Definitely a two-tone.

In fact Hank bought it in December 1980 in a shop in Paris whose owner (Patrice Bastien, now lead Guitar of Guitar Express) was effectively a fan: it was a 58/11 Fiesta Red Strat.

And he replaced the neck by a new one few time after...
