Ah, the Assembly Rooms, Derby. November 6th, 1983. I was there too, along with my friend Pete and my dad and brother. A great gig. I bought a signed copy of The Story of The Shadows (signed by Hank, Brian and Bruce) from the merchandise stand. I've got my ticket somewhere. A great night was had by all.

I also saw them on this tour at The Circus Tavern,Purfleet,Essex. A fairly small venue as i remember,so the atmosphere was great. This was the first time i had seen them since the 60's and it kicked my interest off again.I was like a schoolboy, bought a tee shirt, told my mates all about the show.Well,i was only 38 then!! I cannot remember if there were any special guests.

No special guests at the Circus Tavern in 1983 (yes, I saw them there too).

But I do remember that the resident band played an instrumental version of the theme from "ET" (not that they could easily have done a vocal version of it) and that their singer, when performing the Perry Como hit And I Love You So as a warm-up for the Shads, laid particular emphasis on the line: "The shadows follow me..."!

JN

And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I've lived 'til now
I tell them I don't know

I guess they understand
How lonely life has been
But life began again
The day you took my hand

And yes I know, how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And the night won't set me free
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me

etc...

Dear all,

many thanks for all those informations.
The concert I had heard about was the one organised by John Friesen. Someone told me that Brian Locking and Tony Meehan
were there, too. But if they really were there they might have been a part of the audience instead of playing with the band.

Best regards

The 25th anniversary concert at Blazers certainly was a great show.

I remember seeing Brian Locking in the audience (not sure about Tony Meehan) and some other celebrities including Mike Read and Tim Rice.

Brian Locking was indeed in attendance and, as it was the first time that most of us had seen him since the early '60s, his presence caused quite a stir. Because of this he withdrew from the main area and spent most of the evening dealing with delighted fans in his customary patient and friendly manner. A real gent.
