So far, the following versions and mixes of "Wonderful Land" have been released (the first five are all based on take 13):
1. The mono single version with French horns, strings and a tom-tom overdub;
2. The first mock stereo mix, created from the mono single version, issued on the 1971 issue of "The Shadows' Greatest Hits" and the 1972 maxi-single "Apache"/"Wonderful Land", "F.B.I.";
3. The second mock stereo mix, also created from the mono single version, issued on the 1977 issue of the maxi-single "Apache"/"Wonderful Land", "F.B.I." and the 1977 compilation album "20 Golden Greats";
4. The true stereo version, with stereo channels reversed and with French horns and strings, but without the tom-tom overdub, issued on the 1990 double compilation album and double CD "The Original Chart Hits 1960-1980";
5. The true stereo version, without French horns, strings and tom-tom overdub, issued on the 1993 compilation CD "Everything Of Value - Rarities 2";
6. An undubbed take 8 in mono, with studio banter, issued on the 1997 compilation CD "The Shadows At Abbey Road".

Then there are a few variations on the above, issued recently on some of Magic Records' releases, which are, in my opinion, perversions of the UK issues.
On the 2007 double CD by Magic Records "Original & Alternate 60's Studio Versions", one of the mock stereo mixes has been turned into a mono mix, versions 4 and 5 both have its stereo channels reversed and version 6 (undubbed take 8 in mono) has the studio banter omitted.

I read somewhere that the doctors' white coats were actually yellow because it showed up more white!

I remember that show. The reason the 'white' coats were actually yellow was so they didn't glare too much for the TV cameras.

So the soap powder adverts that said 'Whiter than white' were not true then, should have been Yellower than yellow :lol:

Yes! There it is, the 50th anniversary of the recording session. Also today, it is 25 years ago that The Shadows' first video (EP), entitled "The Shadows Live" was released on VHS and Betamax formats.

Tomtom overdub

The version in the boxed set must be the true stereo version then. I cannot locate the tom-tom overdub. Which CD would have it.

The complete version (The Shadows with The Norrie Paramor Strings and tom-tom overdub) is only available in mono and in two mock stereo mixes. The 2004 CD "The Shadows' Greatest Hits" containing both mono and stereo/mock stereo albums contains the complete mono version and first mock stereo mix. A complete stereo version was never released or maybe even mixed.
