Jay, I can only agree with Rob - your bass music files have been a big help. My best wishes for the op and when you get home take it very easy and recuperate for a while before you get back behind those four strings!

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update on Jay.
He had the op yesterday and it went well, however he has experienced some difficulties with his breathing since, however x-rays show all is clear and he is having exercises from the physio to encourage deeper breathing.
The problem seems to be that when he tries to take deep breaths it hurts as I guess his ribs got a bit of a beating during the op so it's getting over the pain, which he is in, and restoring the breathing to normal.
I know that Kay and Jay both appreciate your kind words and I am sure as soon as he able to get on here he will thank you himself.

Thanks for the update, Ron.

Kay, please look after Jay, don't let him lift anything heavier than a glass of whatever he's allowed to drink, and please give him my very best wishes for a relief from pain and a full recovery.

Regards, Stephen

Hi Jay,

Congratulations on the success of your operation.

Remember that the heart is OK now and you don't have to focus on that, it's rather the lungs and sternum that need time to recover now (as you problably already know). The lungs because they were collapsed for the time the operation took place (an hour or more) and the sternum because it was cut in half longways. With exercises from the physio you should be breathing OK within a week, however not without some discomfort, but the major pain should have gone. As advised the sternum will take longer so... no lifting, coughing or sneezing at least not without your "teddy" = usually a folded towel or cot blanket that you can hold against your chest if coughing or sneezing should happen.
I wish you all the best and all going well you should be back playing bass in about eight to ten weeks time, and with a whole new 'zing' to life.

Here's to a great recovery

Best regards

Tony
