John Henry Rostill - In memorian

Postby Kon-Tiki » 16 Jun 2011, 07:04

Time to remember our great bassplayer John Henry Rostill.
John would have turned 69 years old today 16th June 2011.
Sadly he died of electrochock 26th November 1973.
We'll always remember Mr Burns-bass, John Henry Rostill.

Hi 'Kon - Tiki',
You beat me to it - but thanks. Yes....John was born 69 years ago in King's Norton (Birmingham), moving to Mitcham (6, Baron Grove) in 1951. His contract shows that he officially became a member of the Shadows on November 12th 1963 and Stuart Duffy recently reminded us that his final concert appearance with the Shads was 41 years ago in June, 1970. So sad that his life ended tragically and prematurely, but his memory lives on.

Rob.

John was a really great player but more than that he was a really nice guy. As Rob says, his memory will live on and fortunately we have some great clips of his performances and the recordings to remember him.

Regards

Stuart

I shall look forward to the reprinted John Rostill book; as good a tribute as you could hope to find.
