As a matter of pure interest, how many others here were fans of Django Reinhardt even before Hank turned to the dark side in recent years?
Confession time: I bought my first two Django LPs in 1968. One of them was a budget MfP album of some of his wartime Paris quintet recordings with Hubert Rostaing on clarinet, which made me wonder what all the fuss had been about. Stephane Grappelli was in London throughout the war, hence his replacement by other instruments. The other disc consisted of most or all of the 1930s (UK) Decca recordings of the Hot Club Quintet, which certainly stood out more for me since the guitars (all three of them) were more the centre of attention.
Since the advent of the CD age, I've amassed a few more hundred of Reinhardt's archive recordings.
Anyone else?
