Sheffield what a night

Postby d jones » 15 Oct 2009, 00:46

Hi everyone just back from the concert,WHAT A NIGHT! just as expected only better, spot on in everyway the music the sound Cliff singing his heart out and on his birthday as well. Too soon to retire for the Shadows still at the top of the game.Certainly evident there were plenty of shads fans in the crowd you only needed to listen to noise after each instro and Brian stole it with the extra bit in footapper, what would have happened with little B had that one been included. Also treated to travellin light twice. If you have not seen the show yet you will be captivated by the whole extravaganza! A once in a lifetime event.

Yes it was a fantastic show and the best I've heard The Shadows in a very long time, all the instruments seperated in the mix and Hank's sound back the way we like it tonewise. Thankfully the bass guitar and bass drum were nicely seperated and we could hear Mark's bass lines perfectly. Warrens contribution included playing percussion, drum, ship's bell, accordion, acoustic guitar and singing harmonies as well as his great keyboard parts. At the opposite side of the stage Keith Hayman added some great keyboard parts as well as backing vocals. Brian's drums sounded terrific, as was his playing.
The vocals were all good apart from poor old Bruce singing away his top harmony in 'I Could Easily Fall' and the soundman forgetting to fade him in so we didn't hear him. When you could hear Bruce he sounded great - as did the others. The two versions of 'Travelling Light' occured because the soundman goofed and the microphones began to feed back a few bars into the first attempt, but I'm pleased that they stopped and then started again and performed the song flawlessly.
Cliff , Hank and Bruce were in total harmony and were a joy to watch, those of you who have yet to see them are in for a special treat. :D

Brilliant

Without a doubt the best show I've been to in years. Everyone on top form, sound brilliant (especially as we were in what is basically a big shed!)- much better than last time I was at the Sheffield Arena.

As the two Dave's have said above, this is a terrific show and they are playing (and singing) as well, if not better, than ever. If you have a ticket for any of the remaining shows, you will not be dissappointed. I hope the DVD manages to capture some of the magicl

What can I add to that. Fantastic show! We went for the Shads, but Cliff was on top form. What a sound they make together, wonderfull. The audience participation turned a concert into a giant party. Both my boys aged 16 and 9 were singing every song, if they can do that to teenagers today - need I say more.

To our overseas friends, you are in for the treat of your life, enjoy :D :D

HI

I agree with all the comments above. What stood out for me was how much the show had improved from the one in Nottingham a fortnight ago. They are obviously much more confident with arrangements, words etc and i thought Hank was outstanding in the Rock and Roll numbers, like Nine Times Out of Ten. His solo was totally different from Notts as were his 'fills' in various numbers. Those of us who had the priviledge to see them in the 60's will appreciate where I am coming from becaue Hank played it different every night. I have a DVD that has some songs from those old Cliff Richard shows and when they played the same numbers on different weeks, Hank's solos were totally different. Well it's like that again!!

Fantastic show and like Dave said; Hank's sound was spot on.

Regards

Stuart

It ran a bit late last night due to late comers - finished at around 10-45.

I totally agree with Dave Dixon, and all the other comments, the best show I've seen in ages. Absolutely brilliant, and just where do those guys get thier energy from!!
The skill and the magic is still there in ample measure. What a great night!! . Lucky all of you who are yet to attend one of the shows. And for those who arn't able to go, you've missed a real treat and a piece of true pop history in the making.
Best Regards
Keith.
