I wouldn't have said I was being pompous!

Bitchy perhaps!

anyway, I'm sure Hank wouldn't care what I thought...

Seriously, good luck to Hank in doing what he wants, he's nearly 70 now, and....after being expected to play Apache etc, every time he went on stage for the last 50 years or whatever...he must be quite relieved and feeling free!.....it's just that I, personally, in my opinion, think it's a bit disappointing in some ways, and a bit ironic, that after spending those 50 years developing and perfecting his own individual style and recognisable distinctive sound, he now changes musical direction, but in doing so, sounds very much like so many other players in that style...who nearly all emulate Django..

Whatever... ;)

Well I do not understand what all the fuss is about...Hank Marvin plays Gypsy Jazz

I think that is absolutly brilliant and you have to be something really special to play like Django, I take my hat off to Hank for going down that really difficult jazz road...it shows how versatile he really is...now is Bruce going to follow him playing the complex rhythms on a D hole Maccaferri...maybe not.

Every famous guitarist alive has at some point emulated Mr Hank B Marvin...its nice to see and know who Hank emulates and he does it exceptionally well...its just a pity he has left it so long....until now that is, still better late than never and even more respect to Hank for doing it....dont knock him or his musical tastes....join in the jazz fun, I look forward to all of this guitar playing.

Although Hank is playing in a well-developed genre of Django-style jazz it seems to me that he has a very distinctive tone and style within that, including some of the licks and phrases from his other acoustic and electric work. He's very far from being a Django copyist, any more than he was a James Burton or Scotty Moore imitator once he had the basic features of their styles in place. I am very glad that he has extended into this area while at the same time keeping his Strat style developing in parallel. He's always included jazz players among his choices. I have a 1959 NME interview in which he named Barney Kessell as a favourite. Bruce and Jet loyally named Hank as their top man in the same interview and three of the Shadows at the time named jazz bands. Bruce nominated Duane Eddy's Rebels - but they were mostly jazz players too. Admittedly there weren't many rock bands around at the time but it is possible to see how long the jazz influences have worked through HBM's music.

Hi Peter,

I agree with you. Hank has a distinctive tone and playing, also for this kind of music.
