It's a disgrace, it really is. I'd be surprised if any of them can colour in without going over the lines never mind play a musical instrument. I was in the city centre this morning helping with the clearing up (6 weeks off work for the summer hols!) and it was heartbreaking to see the damage done. Especially to such a fantastic shop as Dawsons, I spend many a while after missing the bus and waiting for the next one in there. From what I saw it's going to take a hefty pay out to restock the place.

Rockbottom in Croydon suffered from these scumbags as well.

My sympathies go to all of you. The senselessness of all this is incomprehensible to me. May you all recover quickly.

Its a terrible affair but sadly I dont find it surprising. This has been festering for quite some time now. These inner city people have nothing, never had anything and seemingly never will have anything in their lives so they dont really care what happens to them if/when they get caught for these offences, in fact a spell in prison would probably give them some pleasures they could never get in their lives at home. I dont want to go into a political argument but I cant help thinking that it has similarities to the Thatcher years when she made her famous statement after the inner-city riots then: 'I cant believe this is Britain'.
It can happen in any country if there is racial unrest and poverty around, and then you get a seemingly totally uncaring Government coming into power pushing your hopes and aspirations down even further with severe economic cuts, that can lead to the final straw.
There is no easy answer or quick fix to this situation I'm afraid, and now that these yobs know what they can get away with, this could keep happening over and over again in the future.
Its not only the Conservatives that are at fault, Labour did little to sort out the situation in their last terms in power either.
So far its not happened up here in Scotland and I hope it stays that way. We do have problems too in our cities but I dont think they come near to the powder kegs that some of the major cities in England have.
Anyway, we dont need 'water cannon' up here, we already have the rain to cool tempers down

Inner city deprivation is no excuse or even a reason for such behaviour.

In the 30s there was much more deprivation. People had less, expected less and there were no state benefits to help but people had respect for one and other and you could leave the house with the front door open and know that it would be safe.

"Inner city deprivation is no excuse or even a reason for such behaviour"

I agree. In the last few days I have been researching my father's family tree. He came from a lowly background in Chester. I have found it very sobering to uncover the level of poverty and low life expectancy of those who lived just a few generations ago. In that light, I have found watching the news of looting etc heart-breaking.

Not just the 1930s....

Indoor toilet, bathroom, heated towel rail, fitted carpets, central heating, double glazing, microwave, washing machine, toaster, sandwich maker, lawn mower, lawn, car, television, telephone, mobile phone, ipod, ipad, iphone, android, xbox, playstation, satnav, desktop computer, laptop computer, notebook computer, video recorder, dvd, digital camera, mp3 player, guitar, keyboard....

These are just a few things that I DIDN'T have when I was a youngster in the 1950s, but this "deprivation" didn't drive me to looting. That was probably because the one thing we didn't lack was imagination. We could easily amuse ourselves with all kinds of constructive hobbies.

Politicians fiddle expenses,
Top Cops take backhanders,
Bankers give themselves unjustified bonuses,
Public servants award themselves massive hand outs - because they can

Chavs loot and burn.....

...... and Wayne Rooney, who was apparently raised in a rough area of Liverpool, can't understand why they are doing it, and has tweeted them from his £4m mansion to stop immediately otherwise football matches may have to be cancelled.

Anyway, this looting malarky is not all it's cracked up to be. I've just kicked me PC Screen in .... trying to loot Ebay.
